Registering Question (s)

My cousin in Chicago has graciously offered to throw me a baby shower and I'm trying to figure out when we can do it in relation to our work schedules, finding out the sex and when is convenient for "home".

I know once invites go out, people will ask where I'm registered...and I think invites might go out before we will be finding out the baby's sex.

I know this sounds like a dumb question, but...when you registered, did you find knowing the sex made a huge difference?  Will registering early cause a headache in most things having to be changed?  I'm guessing no, but I figured I'd ask.

Re: Registering Question (s)

  • Even though I knew what I was having when I went and registered, I still put on my registry gender neutral items, especially the big items!! Some of the smaller items I picked out girly things....

You can always change things once you find out what you are having..People do not normally buy things until the week of the shower, so I would register and then once you find out what you are having you can edit your registry.

Unless you are only planning on having one kid, I would get all the big pricey items gender neutral..IMO....

  • We already knew we were having a girl when we registered, but looking back, a lot of the things we registered for were just "gear" so it really didn't matter if it was a girl or boy. Bottles, pump, most car seats and strollers, lots of stuff are neutral.  BRU recommended that we didn't register for clothes because they are seasonal and most likely wouldn't be available when it came time for people to purchase them.

Maybe you could hold off on registering for things like blankets and other items that you would want to be more personalized for a boy or girl and just add them after you find out.

  • Like Mel and Shannon, we mostly registered for bottles, car seat, strollers, PNP, etc. The only "boy" stuff we registered for was his bedding and extra blankets.

We didn't register for ANY clothes but almost every person bought us clothes.

  • Thanks girls.  You all confirmed exactly what I was thinking....I guess I just needed to "hear" it from someone else.

People LOVE to buy baby clothes!

  • Tell people you're not finding out....and that you can't tell them what it is, then they might buy you stuff you actually need instead of clothes lol
  • We got very few clothes and I was so glad! They came pouring in after she was born though. :)

Happy registering! I'm excited that you're having a Chicago Shower!

haha Nicole!  It is a good idea.  We got pretty much ALL clothes (& no gift receipts).  I admit that I find it hard to resist the cute little clothes myself.  My SIL's shower is today and I bought her some clothes, but we also got her the Angel Care monitor.
