Menstrual cycle getting shorter?

My cycle used to be 28 - 30 days, a nice & predictable cycle, and my periods would last 4-5 days.

My cycle has gradually gotten shorter and my past two cycles have been 23 days long. Two cycles ago, my period lasted 9 long days.

Not on BCP, not TTC, just in search of normal periods. Help! Anyone else? Anyone know anything about what could be causing this?

I'm currently on vacation and will make an appt with my GYN when I get home.

I'm the same. I just weaned DD a little under 2 months ago and was hoping things would regulate after that, but cycles are still short and periods are still long. I feel like I spend most of my life with AF now. I am considering going back on the pill even though I swore off hormonal BC.

interesting. i forgot to mention I still BF at night - that could be a factor I'd not considered.

Could be a hormone imbalance, similar thing happened to me 14 day cycle with AF lasting 7 days.My GYN did tests it was a hormone imbalance.They tried 5 different types of BCP before they got one which made it regular.

Ah, then your OB/Gyn may tell you what mine did 6 months ago- there's not a whole lot to be done until you wean. And even after weaning, she said it can take a while for your cycles to go back to "normal" (whatever your body's normal may be).

I'm having the same issue. I could have written your post. Im not weaning though. I stopped BFing at 3 months. When LO was about 4-6months my cycle was like it used to be but then it all started to change- cycles got shorter and now I get AF at about day 24. Its odd but my dr seems to think its normal.

It's most likely the BFing, but when I first read it my reaction was that your child is still pretty young. I wasn't seeing regular periods for a while after I weaned (DD was 10 mos). I am still off of BC, not TTC and have really short periods that are sometimes so light I only need a panty liner. I can live with this! I wouldn't worry about it.

Mine are usually every 30 days, but the last few have been 24-25 days.  I weaned 4 months ago.

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to post an update in case people track.

I went to my midwife group and saw a nurse midwife there. She wanted to pass me on to their OB for a consult for an endometrial biopsy to check for endometrial cancer!  Uh, major panic attack. I thought that was so strange, given what I'd read here, but she said she was just being cautious. I have HIGH anxiety and really wish I'd have seen a different midwife. Because it sounds like this is pretty common! And now I will be sick with worry until I get that stupid biopsy.
