Baby Names

Need girl name! Emme??

My baby girl is due very soon and my husband and I cannot seem to find a name we like.  I keep coming back to the name Emme (pronounced emmy) but don't know if this sounds nice or could get obnoxious.  Also, my husband is set on having one of her names be a biblical name.  He loves Esther, but everyone I know says that is terrible!  I'm stuck!  First and middle suggestions please!  Need unbiased opinions not from people I know :)  Thanks!

Re: Need girl name! Emme??

  • I think Esther is a great name. I would go with that. Emme sounds a little childish, like it wouldn't suit an adult. What about Emily with the nickname Emmy?

  • I have a former student that named his little girl Emerson Lane and they call her Emmie Lane. I think it's cute and she can always go by Emerson when she older.

Elise and Eloise are 2 of my favorites too. They are kinda similar to Ester.

  • I like Emme and Esther. I like the meaning behind Esther too.

  • What about Elle? If are boy had been a girl, her name would have been Everly. Have you considered Emmeline? I'm just going off of your Emme. Personally, I am not a fan of Esther, it sounds like a spinster aunt to me. . . but older names are becoming much more stylish. good luck!

  • I always want to pronounce Emme like M- like Elle is pronounced L. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think a lot of people will pronounce it this way.

The name is cute, and the look of it is very sophisticated. I actually think it could work on an adult as well, even though 'Emmy' sounds a little bit childish. However, I think the pronunciation will be butchered a lot, like I said before. Also, if its important to your husband to have a biblical name, I would definitely use Esther as a middle name; but Emme Esther doesn't sound so great.

What about Emily Esther? That flows a bit better and you can still call her Emme.

  • I love Emme/Emmy, but I don't think it matures very well. I have trouble picturing a 35-year-old professional with the name.

And Esther, well, I cringe at the thought of a baby named Esther.

It seems like you enjoy "E" names, have you tried perusing E name lists online?

  • Emmeline might be a good option for you. You can call her Emme if you want to, but then she would have options. Or, like strangebird suggested, check out other E names...there are some beautiful ones out there.

  • I like Esther. I think Emme sounds pretty, but I find the spelling confusing. I know it's not made-up but it seems like it should be spelled differently, like Emmy or something. Maybe it's just me.

What about Emily (nn Emmy). You could use Esther as a mn.

    Or Amy?

    Other nice biblical names:

    Sarah

    Rebecca

    Rachel

    Hannah

    Leah

    Eve

  • I don't like Emme has a given name. As a nickname I think it's adorable. A little girl who I used to have at daycare was named Emily but her nickname was Emme.

  • My DD's name is Emily and we call her Emmy as a nickname. I think Emmy is a cutesy nickname but I think it would be difficult to have that name as an adult.

    DD#1 is 3! And LO#2 is on his/her way! Due Feb 26th, 2014.
