Potty Training

Delaying bedtime with potty

Maya hates going to sleep and has used various tactics since she could communicate.  Now that we are using the potty chair and she sees how we react when she says she has to go potty- running to the bathroom- she is saying this to delay bedtime.

Last night she did pee in the potty and then wanted to just hang out on the potty after she peed.  My question- how long to I let her sit there after she has peed without discouraging potty training?

Thanks

  • the 3 day PT book says, in my words "piss and get off the pot".  After he is done, there is no lingering.  DS is also manipulating us, he will ask 3 times and not pee! Eventually on one trip he will pee but it is very frustrating.  I have been just leaving him and risking an accident so that he knows not to cry wolf.  Good luck!

This is what we've been doing. DD does this at naptime and bedtime. It's very frustrating at times, but if I know she just peed she doesn't need to go again and just wants to get out of her crib. We have several layers of sheets/pee pads on her crib so it's pretty easy to just take one off in case she does pee. Good luck!
