so, there is this amazing stroller out there called, orbit... not only is it a stroller... its a car seat and with other attachments... its a bassinet, rocker and really everything you need.
I have been searching for weeks and havent found another infant travel system that compares to the orbit... lightweight... universal... plus stuper cute... infant seat and toddler seat compatable
since the mommas on this board let me know that my option to purchase used isnt wise... i am at a loss for what to get now... does anyone have a good option thats modern, lightweight and for urban areas? graco and such are totally not my style...
Re: orbit stroller... need a cheaper option
Not that this is going to answer your question, but my DH is obsessed with these strollers.
While looking at one we saw it came with a paparazzi sheild.. it protects baby from camera flashes of paparazzi and keeps the cameras from seeing through the fabric.
I said to DH, "Are you anticipating problems with the paparazzi? Cause this looks like it's for the rich and famous.. of which.. we are neither."
They are super neat though! I'd love to know if there something like it for a smaller pricetag out there
Best of luck!!
I think what you are looking for is more in the "luxury" stroller line. And there are PLENTY of options out there, at varying degrees of expense.
The Orbit is pretty cool, but not at all practical in the sense that you have to buy everything separate for it. So it ends up being even MORE expensive than just that initial sticker.
You can check out the Bugaboo line (Cameleon and Bee), Uppababy Vista, Baby Jogger City Select.
We are probably going with the Bumbleride Indie. It's lightweight, and all-terrain, and adapts to all different car seats.
Good luck!
I can't even begin to tell you how overwhelming I find strollers and carseats. I just finished those sections in Baby Bargains and feel like I should have NOT read those chapters!
2 women I spoke with (neither of which have the orbit) both raved about how wonderful the Orbit is. But talk about $$. How can one justify spending just as much on that as on the nursery furniture! (I myself haven't seen one in person but I'm afraid that once I do I will feel the same as you and want it!!)
I totally agree.... I find the whole process overwhelming and horrible... some of the best frames dont come with infant seats, then you have to search for a seat u like and will go with the frame... to me... orbit takes it all off you... plus its safe...
i def understand that the orbit is luxury and prob. one of the most expensive systems out there but I dont want to make a bad purchase when it comes to this and i find the stroller/ carseat situation confussing, thanks for all of the info and assistance ladies
Bugaboo strollers have the bassnet option not sure about a rocker option tho. It holds Graco car seats which are very good car seats.

Phil and Teds has a bassent option called the peanut, a bouncer type option called the lazy ted and holds Chicco, Graco and Peg Perego. We have the Phil and teds sport and will be getting the Chicco car seat. I dont like the Peg so thats out for my family.

Im trying to think of others that have a bassnet option. Also the orbit toddler car seat can be used with the stroller but unless the car seat is rear facing and able to stay on the base it will be a pain to have to install and uninstall it all the time just to use it on your stroller. It can only be on the base as a rear facing car seat not forward facing.
buy buy baby has one for $750. Since you can use Bed Bath Beyond coupons you can get it for $600. That's a more manageable number. Then it's a matter of getting the Orbit toddler seat. Ugh, still expensive.
I only wonder why it got such bad (well, not bad but not great) ratings from Baby Bargains. They gave infant & toddler car seat & stroller a B.
omg! you are a genius/ savior!! you totally made my day!!! i just called my husband in a panic bc we can afford a new one now!!! wow! thanks! i owe u one... promise to pay it forward...
My guess is that the price is the reason for the B rating, not the quality/safety.
Since Baby Bargains is all about "the secrets to saving 20% to 50%" on all things baby, I'm guessing that they use both cost and quality/safety to come up with a grade and a sale price of $600.00 for an Orbit vs. the price of a Chicco or Graco at around $250.00 is the reason for the B.
I looked at the Orbit, it did seem pretty cool- but it also seemed really big/heavy. I then found the Quinny website and fell in love with their Buzz 3. Hadn't seen one in stores yet at this point of my research, just saw a bunch of YouTube videos and read a bunch of reviews on Amazon/The Bump.
There's this store in Northern California that does an excellent job of reviews on YouTube called: Lullaby Lane. Here's their video on the Quinny Buzz 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mtOZobRjSo
Anyway, I then proceeded to find a store in LA that carried the Quinny and they also carried the UppaBaby Vista. I tried both out and realized that the UppaBaby was pretty hard to open (for a short person like me- DH was fine with it). You kind have to lift it up and swing it out. Not too hard, just it was harder than the automatic opening of the Quinny. (UppaBaby video from Lullaby Lane: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2YYzrEn3Bo)
I really liked the streamlined style of the Quinny. I also know I'm not the kind of person that lugs tons of stuff around so the smaller basket doesn't bother me. I also really like the memory foam seat- crazy soft! I ended up ordering the Quinny Buzz 3 in Racoon (such a cute brown/aqua combo) with a bassinet off of Amazon. Best price, no shipping, and has a great return/warranty policy.
I know it's just a stroller, but I am super excited about it. I'm sure I'll be pushing around the cats soon.
Edited: **Oops sorry didn't read above posts. Glad you are excited about the Orbit and the BuyBuyBaby Coupon, nevermind! Good luck!**
Here is a good review on the Orbit system about the infant car seat and stroller.
https://carseatblog.com/?p=5498
I did notice the other strollers she did the price thing with come with a seat for a toddler unlike the orbit so you would add $250 on to the price she puts out to get the seat for a toddler once they outgrow the infant seat.
We bought a StrollAir Zoom... we found a brand new one for over $100 off from an Ebay store (reg $529, we got it for $399). It has a bassinet and a reversible toddler seat, they offer a snap-in for many types of infant carseats (Graco, etc), and is loaded with darling accessories (parisol, rain cover, bug cover, foot muff, etc).
Though not cheap, it is really on the affordable end for a luxury stroller that is comparable to the more common brands like Bugaboo, UppaBaby, etc. Just one more thing to add to the list of more brands to consider, but we are really happy with it!
2012 Races: 3/18 Shamrock Shuffle 5k; 4/14 E.R. Race for Autism 5k (PR! 25:58); 6/9 Riudoso Sprint Triathlon; 6/24 Chunky Monkey 10K; 7/29 Cochiti Lake Olympic Triathlon; 9/16 Chips & Salsa 1/2 Marathon; 10/21 Duke City 1/2 Marathon; 12/2 Rock & Roll 1/2 Marathon in Vegas!
If you really want an Orbit, you could always try to find the frame, bassinet, etc used, and just buy the car seat portion new. That would save you a ton of money, and the car seat is the only part you really need to worry about buying new. It would still cost you a fairly significant amount of money, but it would be significantly cheaper than buying the whole system new.
FWIW, we saw it in the store where we ordered our furniture, and my DH fell in love with it (and with the Stokke, which is a similar system with a similar price tag). Thankfully, he understands that we can't afford to spend that much on the stroller, so we're not arguing about it, at least.
