So, now that my divorce is almost final, I told exH that I want to split up our car insurance (I have been paying it since we split last summer). So, not only is it going to cost me MORE to have my own policy because I'm no longer getting the multi car discount, but my agent just called me and because I am getting a new policy (let exH keep the existing one) they want me to put 50% down when I normally pay monthly. I have been with this company for 15 years and my agent is telling me there is nothing that she can do, it's new policy. Eff that. I guess customer loyalty doesn't mean anything these days, so I guess I'll be shopping around for new insurance.
Re: Getting screwed for being the nice guy.
Is it in the paperwork that he keeps the current one? I think if you've been paying, you have every right to just cancel him off.
And that rule stinks....can you try to get it thru the company that has your home owners?
Yeah, don't be the nice guy. Let him know he needs to find his own insurance and give him 2 weeks to do so. No reason why you need to lose yours for him.
And, have you been paying for both vehicles all this time?
I can NOT say enough good things about geico. I LOVE the customer service reps, I love their prices, I love their roadside assistance- we were rescued on xmas eve a few years ago by them- they took time to find us a tow truck that would be able to carry three people in it 2 hours away- and they let them take the car to our house, which are both not really within the rules ( 1. getting you a ride, 2. towing to a place that isn't a garage...)
we would have been seriously effed without their amazing help- and worst of all, my car was brand new and we bought the extra wartranty that they scared us into rejecting with the whole : I would hate to see you stranded without this awesome 24/7 roadside assistance...line...
When we called for the roadside ass. they told us- hey- there's nothing we can do, yes its 24/7, but it's xmas eve...sorry!
we were 2 hours form home, and 4 hours from where we were going- stuck at this CREEPY methlab looking service station that wouldn't look at our car, but finally let us use the phone ( it was SO sketchy)
I am getting all enraged now just thinking about it!
Geico RULES.
SATURN NORTH eats a bag of d!cks!!!
bags and bags and bags of d!cks~!!!
please get a quote from geico. I am sure you'll be happy- super happy.
Well, my agent just called me back. I guess my idle threat of shopping around worked. She got my rate lowered by almost $200/year and I don't have to pay the 50% up front now.
Truth be told, I probably wouldn't have shopped around, I'm just too lazy. I may look into Geico or some other company down the road, but having shopped around a few months ago, I'll be hard pressed to find someone that can beat the new rate that she just gave me.
And yup, been paying his insurance all along and he hasn't given me a dime towards it. Always said he would, but didn't. I finally made the change this month since it was up for renewal.
ETA: I didn't have the option to just drop him from the policy. Unfortunately, the policy was in his name so I had no choice but to get a new policy.
Kelly Monaghan's 5K - 5/15/11 - 3rd Place in AG

call them anyway. I mean it. or do it online- you will be amazed, I bet. also, I want to add that I crashed into this dude one time after getting a speeding ticket ( I know bad day right?) and I called to tell them, and see what my rates might go up to- and they not only didn't raise my rates at the next renewal period- they DROPPED them by a couple of dollars!
just get a quote.
I am prodding you. and nagging you.
but the service- IT IS SO GOOD!!
Do you or your DH work for them?
My agent with State Farm is amazing. I've been with them for 13 years!
