Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

D & E recovery questions

I had a D & E on Tuesday. Yesterday I felt ok...a liitle sore, not too much bleeding. However today I am feeling much more sore--all over. My neck, back, legs, etc are all sore. I even have a headache and the back of my head hurts. I feel similar to when I have the flu--just achy. Also feeling more crampy with a little more bleeding today. I don't have a fever though. Is this normal or something I should mention to the dr? Could it be just result of being stressed and tense? TIA

Re: D & E recovery questions

  • It could be a reaction to the anesthesia. I had incredible upper body stiffness for 2 days afterwards, something called "postoperative myalgia" and it's related to the muscle relaxant they used. I felt like I'd been in a car accident from the waist up, and it was hard to get out of bed, let alone move around. It wears off in about 2 days. I'm betting you feel slightly better tomorrow, and then much improved the day after.

Apparently it's a pretty rare reaction. When I asked this board about it, only one other person had the same experience.

  • I'm so sorry that you have to go through this.  And I'm sorry that you aren't feeling good.

I just had my D&C yesterday, and during the doctor's "pre-op" talk, I seem to remember that your symptoms PLUS a fever could mean infection.  But you don't have a fever, that is good news.  A temperature is a sure sign of infection.  You could continue to check your temperature throughout the day.  If you have the option to call your doctor's office or the nurse "hotline" I would do that...just to give yourself a peace of mind.  Did you receive any "post-op" information?

I hope you are able to take it easy...rest is the best medicine!  Keep us updated!

  • I had symptoms similar to this on the saturday after my D&C.. then the following day Sunday I had a fever of 102 I ended up having an infection got an antibiotics and felt better in a day... Keep an eye on yout temp if it goes over 101 call your dr to see if you have an infection..
  • Don't know if this is normal either, but I had a D&C on Friday and felt resonable Sat/Sun.  Monday I felt like I might be coming down with something, but did not have a fever.  I took some good vitamins and felt a little better the next day.  Not sure if it was the meds etc, but I've been having GI issues after that, so I ended calling the doctor.  He didn't seem concerned about me feeling bad since I didn't have a fever.  Thought most likely the GI issues were due to the meds etc.  Feeling better today.

Hope you're feeling better. When in doubt call the doctor.  I felt strange calling (as if I should be feeling worse before calling), but I'm really glad I called just for peace of mind.
