Natural Birth

can I share my birthstories one with pit one without?

I've been lurking for awhile.  I watched the Business of Being Born and loved it.  I consider myself to have gone natural, but not because I was super strong, just my babies were super fast.  The epi also scared me!  With that said, giving birth hurt, but it was the MOST amazing thing I've ever done.  What a rush afterwards!  I'm excited for all yet to go through it.  Here's my boys...

Nathaniel (oldest)- water broke at friends house.  DH wanted to watch the rest of the preseason game.  I figured we should probably get checked.  I slept the first night.  I was contracting, but not feeling them, and not making progress.  Cervadil placed in the morning.  no progress all day.  Pitocin started at night.  No contractions that I could feel, and no progress.  At 6:20 or so in the morning I felt an electric shock to my uterus that felt like I had been kicked.  Dh wanted more sleep, but baby started coming fast and furious.  Strong contractions every 2 min or so out of nowhere.  I kneeled in front of the ball for awhile.  I asked for an epi after about a hour.  They checked me and I was fully dialated!!  I went from 2cm to 10cm in an hour.  transition before pushing in the bed was the worst, and I screamed pretty loud.  DS was born at 7:56 am sunny side up.  I had a bad tear, but was on such a high I didn't care.  I watched as DH hummed Amazing Grace to my newborn.

Caleb(youngest)- I was having a lot of braxton hicks for weeks, and was so ready.  I thought he'd be early like his brother, but he was a few days late.  I avoided induction due to my previous experience.   I had it with contractions so i went to a Bible study that night :)  I went to the bathroom and had my first painful contraction at around 8.  A few minutes later the second came, so I thought I should probably drive home (LOL).  The ladies thought better of it and one drove me to the hospital while DH brought my oldest to my parents and met me there.  I was still interested in an epi, but nervous about it.  When I got there I was at 5cm and 100%  I was at 4cm not in labor.  I had some bloody show and in triage my water broke.  I was walking around and joking with the nurse and DH inbetween.  I was checked around 9:30, and was 8cm.  My doc said the epi wouldn't be worth it.  At 10 I was 91/2 with a lip on my cervix (from the previous tear).  I labored in all 4's to help DS turn face down.  On all 4's I was actually praying and just so thankful it was going the way I had hoped (epi or no epi it was better than I hoped for).  Doc checked me again and DS was crowning with me on all 4's.  They actually made me turn onto my back which was impossible.  I pushed once and DS was born face down at 10:24.  Much easier birth eventhough he was 2 pounds heavier.

Pit contractions are no joke.  They come out of nowhere and are very intense.  It's hard to prepare for them.  Without pitocin was like a rollercoster.  I could feel them coming.  It would get intense, but almost as quickly it would ease off and I knew I was going back down the hill so to speak.  I guess that's how I pictured it.  best of luck ladies!!

  • I guess I consider my first natural because it was without pain meds.  The induction most certainly was not though... ;)

  • So annoying that the dr wanted you to turn on your back as you were pushing him out.  Thanks for sharing--congrats on your beautiful boys!
