I don't even know how to explain what/how I feel except helpless and horrible! I'm her only source of nutrition so I feel like a failure, pretty much.
SHe's 5 months old today, and went backwards 6 oz. =( Doesn't even weigh 12 lbs.
So, they gave us 4 cans of formula for preemies (for the additional calories), and now I have to use formula every other feeding. I'm deathly afraid that she's going to hate nursing and only want the formula.
We also have an appt. with a pedi GI monday morning and have a barium enima scheduled but no appt. yet.
POOR BABY GIRL!
Re: DD lost weight...again...
Poor thing! It's not your fault. I think the GI specialist will help a lot. I'm glad you were able to get a pretty quick appt with them.
She will still nurse! She's been doing it for long enough. Maybe you'll be able to pump during her FF and be able to pick right up where you left off after the diagnosis? I really don't think the milk is the issue [based on my very limited knowledge of GI issues]. I am anxious to hear what the doctor says and if the enema will help.
Just out of curiosity, have you given the formula yet? Does she take much?
Also, remember that formula does not erase the benefits of BFing and they can coexist very peacefully. YOu'll get this all sorted out soon.
You could also use an SNS to help deliver the formula while you are nursing if you're afraid she'll prefer the bottle
I hope you start getting some answers pretty quickly

i'm so sorry to hear she's still not gaining weight and it's absolutely not your fault. you're doing all you can and continuing to ask questions and advocate for your lo is the best thing you can do.
i think the previous post had a great idea, pump during the session you're offering the formula and you'll have it in the freezer.
just curious, before you have to do a barium enima on your lo, could they give you a week or so on supplimenting with formula. just to avoid a possible unnecessary procedure on your little girl? maybe it will be do trick and you can suppliment and bf from here on out. i had to suppliment with my first, she was not getting enough starting around the 4 month mark and lost a couple of ounces. Just a thought.
best of luck to you though, we'll keep thinking positive thoughts for your lo.
You've been given great advice so I don't have much to add. I hope you get some answers soon and don't be too hard on yourself...you are doing a great job! Everything will work out and hopefully the specialist will help ease your mind. ((hugs))
