Re: BRIGHT
I used to use Roxio Easy Media Creator My DVD, but had a lot of problems with it crashing so I switched to Nero Multimedia Suite 10. (Nero is VERY complicated, though.) It's one long DVD and has "chapters." I usually separate it by month. Or if it's a vacation DVD, I separate them by days/events.
I usually intersperse the pictures and videos together (my clips are very short, often 30 secs) in the same slideshow, though I also sometimes make a "chapter" of just videos or pictures. I try to do chronological order.
I don't put titles on the videos or pictures unless it's particularly funny (like when I went on a mission to find all of the pieces of pottery in my mom's house). Generally they're self-explanatory. Sometimes, I collect a bunch of videos of DD doing the same thing (like dancing), mute the volume on the videos and put them all together with the same background music.
Usually I make the first chapter a special one just for that DVD. One time I had DD take me on a tour of the house. One time I collected a bunch of pictures of her with our dog since birth, and played the song "Puppy Love." Just something cute and fun. Then a few chapters with pics/videos. Then a chapter of "Danaisms." Then I do a small chapter with her "bear pictures," since I've taken a pic of her next to the same teddy bear once a month since birth.
My DVDs have gotten significantly larger since I got my new camera. They used to be around 4.5 G - pretty much the limit of a regular DVD. But with my new camera and the HD video recorder, I've had to switch to using the 8.5G DVD+Rs. They are twice as expensive, but I like being able to fit everything onto one DVD.
I aim for one DVD per season, plus extra ones if someone comes to visit or if we go on vacation.
I've never used Windows Movie Maker, sorry.
Also, I have a LightScribe DVD burner. You have to buy special LightScribe DVDs, which are a little more expensive. They record on one side. Then you flip the DVD over and it burns a picture/words right onto the DVD. They're super cool and way nicer than just writing on them with Sharpie, or using a paper label. They're monochromatic, though, so the picture isn't in color.
HTH!
