Interesting Thought

So I had a MW appointment today and I asked her how long she would let me go without interventions if my water breaks before the contractions start.  She answered my question and then brought something interesting to my attention.  She said that I should pay attention to how I am wording things.  She said that by me saying something like, "how long will you let me" puts me in the position of a "sick patient" when I am just a woman having a baby.  She said that their job is to be "with woman" and support her in her choices.  I just liked that it felt more like a partnership as opposed to an authoritarian type of relationship.  I'm not quite sure why I am posting this, it just made me think.

Darn. I see MW's for well-woman care that are based at Northwestern and St. Francis Evanston. I think Swedish is too far south for me (we live in the far north burbs).
