Struggling....

I have a 3 1/2 year old son who I have been really struggling with lately.  I SAH, and it seems as of late, that he refuses to hear anything that i say.  Pick up the toys, help with his brother, go to the potty (he's trained), etc.  EVERYTHING is a struggle.  All I am LONGING for is him to respond on the FIRST (or even second) asking and then go back to doing what he was doing...

he is taking ALL of the toys from his 16 month old brother and puts them in his room, and while i understand that his room is for HIS stuff, that doesn't promote sharing at all..

I'm just about at my wits end, can anyone share processes, thoughts, help, anything?

THANKS!

  • Does it make you feel better to know that you just described every 3.5 year old? Just keep being consistent with him, because though it's very normal, it's also not acceptable. This is the beginning of the rest of your years with him, lol. Unfortunately, they're not going to jump the first time we ask them to do something, most of the time at least.
  • If I had a penny for every time I have had to repeat myself I would be rich. As for the toys, are they his or theirs? Where do you want them to be? I mean, if I had something bought for me, not my sisters, it would go in my room and if/when I brought it out they could use it ... maybe. I'm a brat like that though.

  • Mine are 2 years apart-- 3.5 and 20 months, and it's the same thing at our house. Screaming for no reason, torturing his sister, crawling out of bed at 6am and waking up everyone in the house...

I've got nothing for you, though. I have a burning desire to start drinking at 8am.

Oh my gosh!  It is so good to hear that others are doing the same thing.  Our DS is almost 3.5, and he refuses to listen to anything.  We are so frustrated.

  • thank you all for your input!  i try to be as consistent as possible.. but we all know how that goes!

as far as whose toys they are, of course 95% of what we have were bought for my oldest, so they are going to have to share somewhere... we have 8 million blocks it seems, but none of them every seem to be the ones that my youngest can play with (according to my oldest!)

hang in there ladies, we will make it through!

(and i'm with you, drinking at 8 am might not be a bad idea, sometimes!)
