Potty Training

wdyt - is he ready?

DS is 25+ months.

He loves wearing underpants. I give him a choice and we put them on him most mornings now after he wakes up. He has gone 90min or so dry. And yesterday I caught him when he needed to go, he went on the potty, and we didn't have any accidents for 2+ hours.

He doesn't say he needs to go, but if I catch him, he'll wee in the potty. He wees in the potty happily most nights after his bath. But sometimes he still needs persuasion at other times (e.g.  I'll let you watch x program on the tv if you sit on teh potty.)

He can't undress himself, but says 'uh oh' if he has an accident.

So is he ready? I wonder b/c he seems to be the first of his peer group (of males at least) and I never thought he' be the first. So I'm wondering if I'm seeing readiness where it isn't, just b/c I'd love to PT him before DD comes along...

Re: wdyt - is he ready?

  • Honestly, I'd give it a try. We're doing the 3 day PTing method (we're on day 5 and DD is 23 months old) and I like its premise of reminding them to tell mommy or daddy when they need to go pee or poop. It sorta puts the call in their court, if you will. After a few days, I think my DD is getting that when she says "pee", we'll put her on the toilet and she'll pee. It does require a lot of your time and attention, but if you're home with him I think it's totally doable!
