  • Nature's Miracle for cats.  Pour a crap load of it on and you just leave it.  It kills the smell.  My cats peed on my wood floor and once in my car and the smell went away completely.  You can get it at any pet store, it is in a white with red writing container, or at some grocery stores.   Good Luck!

  • My cat does his business in odd places too.  It is a pain!  I have just had to play around with different litter box placements and different types of litter boxes -- he doesn't like the igloo ones so I have to have at least one open one.  He is a picky little bugger!

Good luck!  I hope you can get the smell out.  Cat pee is nothing to mess around with!  Yuck!

I've used that stuff on the carpet before, and it worked great.  Good to know it also works on hardwood.  Thanks!

  • Wait, I am confused. We have had wood burning fireplaces my whole life, they were standard in all 1500 houses in the neighborhood I grew up in (it was like a small town) and no one I knew ever put sand in theirs, why would you do that? Of course your cat thinks your fireplace is a litter box, it looks like one all full of sand....... And generally pets act out when they are mad at their owners.

Also, you spent ALL DAY at the vet bc your cat is getting fat?

  • I usually just lurk, but man this post was very entertaining last night! I was watching all my shows on dvr, drinking wine & it took everything I had to not write WTF is going on here!!! LOL! I wanted to call my sister and show her this!

  • At least it's not the carpet! We just had to rip out the carpet in our upstairs hallway (downstairs is tile) because one of our cats peed so much it soaked the boards underneath. Tongue Tied

? I never said I put sand in it. Cats act out for a variety of reasons, like when they avoid the litter box because they are in pain. And she had several tests and other things done, which is way off topic so I'm not going to get into that.

I have been catching a whiff of cat urine in the living room on and off today, but I haven't been able to figure out where it was coming from.  Then tonight, MH caught one of our cats trying to go into the fireplace.

Once she ran away, we looked around inside, and sure enough she's been going in there for quite some time!  We had to scoop out all the poop, then vacuum up all the sand.  The pee has soaked into the cement...any ideas how to get the smell out?

I bet my cat isn't the only silly furbaby on this board...where has your pet done his/her business?

EDITED to remove the word "stupid," since people were getting their panties in a twist.

I believe you DID say you had sand in your fireplace........ And you mentioned the vet appt so I assumed it was relevant, apparently not.

Sorry, my bad.  I meant ashes.  I think MH had called it "sand" before that, so I ended up typing that.  No, I did not add any sand to it.  Thanks for catching that mistake.
