What is 6X?

Kids' clothing sizes have always been strange to me.  It wasn't until DD got older that I understood the T thing (2T, 3T).  So around 5 they graduate to the "little girls (or boys)" sizes, 4, 5, 6... but before the "regular girl (or boy)" sizes starting at 7 there's just 6X.  Does this mean just "extra large 6 but not quite ready for 7"?

It's all very weird if you ask me.

  • Wider and a little bit longer.

"extra large 6 but not quite ready for 7"? That's right lol.

  • I always thought that size was wierd too.  I remember when I was a 6X, how scary.

  • I am not sure what it technically means. But I know my 8 year old is super tiny in the waste, but yet tall. And 6X is her size. So I am guessing that they are longer than a reg. 6.

  • I just wanted to add that depending on the store, they don't have the same clothes in 6x as the 7 and up sizes. I like that they had 6x for DD so she could stay in little girl clothes a tad bit longer since she was big for her age.
