2nd Trimester

Poster's Etiquette

Ok, I personally think they should have some sort of notification at the top to avoid some valid frustration and it would also help the people who don't like mean responses to avoid them

1) Read through a number of past posts BEFORE making a new discussion on a topic that is commonly asked and answered throughout the boards to avoid many duplicate posts.

2) Do NOT delete or edit your original post without valid reasoning and a note as to what/why the edit was made

3) Do not post the same post on multiple boards all at the same time unless you post on one board and find the responses may be more helpful from another group.

Any addditions ladies???

Re: Poster's Etiquette

  • Don't ask about the validity of gender predictors. Ever. Period.

That is the one question that drives me nuts.

  • On 2nd tri, you don't need to introduce yourself, no one will read or respond.  There are thousands of posters and lurkers, an intro isn't necessary.  We generally don't care what team you're on or if your anatomy scan was perfect.  These are things better suited to your month board.  I don't like seeing bump pics on 2nd tri either (unless you do a big thread like hump day bump day or something like that), I think they belong more on the month boards as well.

though I agree this is irritating and totally fills the boards, admittedly, I did it, partly cause I didn't realize until after how irritating it is and partly cause I was super excited and wanted to tell the world.

In hidsight I wouldn't likely do it again, but it was fun to share, so I am on the fence on this one.

  • Ha, it would be nice to think that a sticky at the top of the page with these rules would help, but ultimately the people who usually committ these crimes, don't read around first.

Etiquette for me means grammer and paragraphs.

I am not really that excited to find out the gender of a strangers baby, but I respect that they are excited.  I also realize that I am only on this board for 3 months and there are people coming and going all the time with their own ideas of what is and isn't important for this board.  Live and let live I think.

Just take a look at number of post views for intro/team/anatomy scan posts -  it is SIGNIFICANTLY less than other posts.  Most get less than 5 responses.  Do you really care if some random person on the internet is having a boy or girl?  ETA - if you take any of those posts to your month board, you will find a cozier group of girls who actually recognize your SN and who actually care and will respond because the number of posters is much smaller.

  • I would probably add something about asking serious medical questions without asking or with ignoring your doctor is a no no. I don't know how many times I've seen someone get flamed for this and honestly it irritates me as well. Taking a general poll is fine, but when it comes to having serious worries you're not going to get any sympathy if you ignore or just refuse to ask your doctor.

This!  Plus this is my second time on the tri boards and none of these rules were around in 2008-2009.  Guess I'm so last year LOL Smile  Its good to know proper Etiquette.

While I totally agree with not searching back "100s of pages", there is a huge difference in looking down the current page. This has been happening frequently. It's one big redundant mess.

I also completely agree with correcting a typo. I don't want to speak for the OP, but I felt she was talking about people that change their story after a few initial responses. Haven't you ever read a post and about half way through thought, what is everyone talking about? That's not what OP said. Only to realize the OP completely changed her song and dance b/c she was getting picked on.

Right - TK/TN/TB's sucky search feature obviously makes it impossible to get any sort of accurate results when you search, but I don't get how someone comes to a message board and just posts without doing a quick run through of the first few pages of messages to get a feel for the boards.

*I don't mean EVER, but often it takes looking at the intro lines of posts about 10 posts back and you are asking the same question!  ( IE gender predictors), all it takes is a little skim to not waste everyone else's time, who says their time is more important than everyone else on the boards.

    2) Do NOT delete or edit your original post without valid reasoning and a note as to what/why the edit was made

-sometimes it's nice to have people edit just for a type-o....who cares...this is no skin off anyone's back

-this is total B.S. I am a member of multiple board and I often post here w/ my question and then get other perspectives from my MoMs.

     * I bet people who are in the other groups you are dislike reading your post 3 times, as you said there are 1000's of people on here, if everyone did that, your post would be pages back in no time, and wouldn't get many responses.

    4. dont post rules about how to post on the boards if you have less than 100 posts

  • I think that Etiquette dictates that, when someone breaches etiquette, she should be sent a PM rather than called out on a message board. It's only polite, and causes good, thoughtful answers to be ignored.

Just because you spend more time talking in the posts, does not mean you spend more time reading or actually "listening" to them.  And I actually made this post because I can relate to the newbies, I am not doing it out of anger, I am doing it because I think it may actually be a helpful read to people who come on and start posting and get a bunch of people annoyed and angry at them.  I have been on here long enough to know what is annoying to alot of people, and short enough to know, not everyone else realizes this, I was serious about it being a helpful note for newbies.

Really, is it that hard to just ignore a post that you don't care anything about? If the topic is redundant, don't open it. Problem solved.

The ones that get offended, for being flamed for a redundant topic, will just have to grow some balls (figuratively, of course) or leave the boards.
