It's quite a common French Canadian name.  I've known several Emanuelle's, usually spelled with only one "m."  Many have "Manny" as a nn.

I love E names, but this one isn't my style. Not that it isn't a legitimate name, I just think boy when I say it out loud, despite the French feminine form.

I think it's lovely, but kind of a mouthful... to me it doesn't really lend itself to any obvious nicknames (but then again I think some people get too hung up on this anyway - nobody really needs a nickname). As some other posters have suggested, I would maybe go with only one M, but I disagree with those who suggest it is not feminine.
