Medical center of Plano?

Have any of you delivered there and what was your experience like?

Re: Medical center of Plano?

  • I delivered my first son there.  My personal experience wasn't all that great.  It was mostly due to my Doctor at the time but I did have a couple nurses that I could have done without too. Food wasn't all that great.  And it was LOUD.

My best friend is there right now, she's been admitted for pre-e.  So far she's had a good experience.  (Not that being hospitalized is good or anything.)  But she said the rooms are TINY and it's hard to get rest because it's loud.

I have since delivered twice and Richard Regional.

  • I delivered my daughter there this past January and we LOVED Medical Center of Plano - so much so, that I wrote a letter of thanks to the nurses & staff attended to us while we were there. Yep - we were THAT impressed.  Or maybe we're just easy to please! =)

The nurses I had were extremely attentive and sweet.  I even had my guests comment how nice everyone at the hospital was.

On the L&D wing and the Recovery wing, there are patient refrigerators on the floor that provide snacks for you and your birthing partner. (during labor, however, I could only have the popsicles - but I could have as many as I wanted!!)  But when you get to recovery, there are graham crackers, peanut butter, juices, etc. at your disposal which I thought was pretty cool - it saved us from having to bring snacks or purchase them in the cafeteria.

You get a restaurant-style MENU in your room when you get to recovery - each day you call and tell them what you want to eat for lunch/breakfast/dinner, etc.  And on the last night you are there, you get a steak & lobster dinner with chocolate cake - very sweet!!  The days I was there, I had a large croissant with eggs, cheese & bacon for breakfast with fruit - and it was pretty darn good

My anesthesiologist was also amazing - he even came in the next day to check and see how I was doing after my epidural.

Even down to the staff that came in to change our trash - they made small talk, were extremely nice and always asked if there was anything my husband or I needed.

As far as the hospital being "loud" - things are constantly going on and happening in the halls - but I didn't notice it being any louder than it should have.  And we found the recovery room was sized fairly well - and had a comfortable stay.  However, you can always upgrade for an additional cost, to a 2 room suite.

This got winded, but we truly did have a great experience there and I couldn't say enough about them.  I had my first daughter 9 years ago at Baylor Irving and it was HORRENDOUS - so our stay at Medical Center Plano more than made up for it!!!

  • I gave birth to both of my boys there.  The first experience was phenomenal.

The second was the worst experience I can imagine.  They were going through construction and were short staffed.  Both of those conditions led to a miserable experience.  They didn't have a room for me after my C-section, so I was in a tiny temporary room for recovery.  I had my C-section between 11pm and 11:55 pm (Dr. and anesthesiologist were awesome - I LOVE my OBGYN)...that being said, the next morning from about 7am to 9am I went without any kind of pain medication because of the hospital being short-staffed and not having their sh!t together. My doctor had ordered the meds, it took the hospital staff that long to follow thru.  And the nurses were RUDE about it.  My DH, who is usually very mild-mannered was PISSED at the amount of pain I was in and kept complaining to the staff and they just kept putting him off.

I had 2 nurses removed from my care because they were rude and apparently didn't give a damn because they were "over worked" (which was in their words) and I had one nursery nurse removed from caring for DS2 because she was rude and condescending to me and flat out told me she didn't agree with some of my decisions (one of which, being that I didn't want him given formula, only breast milk.)

Sorry, I'm babbling....I haven't really spoken about this much, as it was that awful.

If and when we have another baby, I'll choose Baylor Frisco.  I was in tears (bawling) for most of my 2nd "stay" at Med. Center of Plano.  I know hormones had most to do with it, but the 2 hours shortly after my surgery with no meds is unforgivable to me.

  • i had my dd1 there. it was alright i guess. food was adequate, nurses adequate.

i had my next 2 at baylor frisco. and THOSE were the best experiences ever.

  • I had my DD there and I thought it was a good experience.  I loved my nurses and thought the entire staff was really great.  I talked to one of the LCs a couple of times while I was there and she was really helpful and patient with me.  The food was fine - not like going to Pappas Bros but it wasn't bad at all and I liked the whole "room service" approach.  I thought our room was pretty decently sized;  DH stayed with my and we had either my parents or his parents there with us most of the time and didn't really feel too crowded.  I know they are going through renovations now, so we'll see how it is when I deliver this next one.  I don't really remember it being loud or not.

Oh, and we ended up back there a couple days after being discharged b/c DD was jaundiced and need to go under blue lights for one night.  It was a Sunday and we were incredibly upset and freaked because we'd had to go from an after hours pedi's office to Presby of Plano b/c their lab was open on Sunday and Med Ctr's was not;  we had to go through the ER at Presby and then wait for hours for any information, so by the time we got to Med Center I was just ready to break down.  The nurse who got us settled in our room was soooo sweet and comforting to me, and when I admitted to her I was having BFing problems she found another nurse from a different floor who came down and spent a lot of time talking to me and encouraging me...I just really appreciated their sensitivity when I was obviously a mess.

These are the only times I've ever stayed in a hospital so I don't have much to compare it to, but I was happy with my L&D and recovery and expect this next delivery to be the same.

  • I just delivered there last month. They have completely changed and renovated everything. My favorite things were the Tempurpedic mattress hospital beds, the restaurant style hospital menu that you order from each meal, the aneistologist was amazing and helped me through every step of the way, the maternity wing has quiet hours with no visitors from 2-4pm (which i really liked to nap then). The post partum nurses and the baby nurses were AMAZING. I went back and visited them delivering candy and a sincere thank you note to them.

The only critism i have is the pull out couch for the husbands is really not meant for a guy over 6 feet.

  • Delivered my DD early 2009 and it wasn't an impressive experience but I have an amazing OBGYN so that made it much better.  The discharge nurse wasn't very helpful and everything was confusing on the day of discharge but otherwise it was pretty much average.

Delivered my DS just last month and it was SUCH a better experience.  The nurses were amazing in L&D.  One even stayed past her shift and later called in to see how I was.  It was so quiet I was shocked when I was told that there had been so many deliveries that there weren't any more rooms available in recovery.  They promptly set me up in one of the big L&D rooms with the tempurpedic style mattresses and other than it being higher and more difficult to get up into, it was nice and spacious.  As soon as a recovery room opened up, I was transferred and everything went perfectly.  All the recovery nurses and discharge nurses were awesome as well until I saw the one that discharged me the last time but with that exception, it was a great experience.
