s/o overnight diapers: tell me about using one size up

We just got Mally the Baby Dry diapers because she was waking up wet on some mornings, having peed through the regular diaper, her sleeper, and her sleep sack. The Baby Dry seem fine, but I'd never heard about using a one-size-too-big diaper at night.

I guess my big question is, wouldn't a too-big diaper be more likely to leak?

  • I haven't heard of using one size up either. We use the baby dry size 3 and they work perfectly.

  • With my 1sy & 2nd boys, I always used a size up for at night time with no leaking problems.

I think because the baby is a bit smaller in weight than the other boys at this age that never worked with him.  From around 4-7 months he always woke up wet in the middle of the night & I could not find any overnighters his size.  I ended up putting him in 2 cheap diapers & that worked!

  • we went through this a couple months ago when S started rolling over to sleep on her tummy... we tried the baby dry and HATED them- she leaked right through after 5 hours. we went up a size of our normal dipes (pampers dry max- sorry) and haven't had a problem. She's currently in a size 3 (pampers cruisers dry max), but barely, so she's able to wear 3's during the day and night w/out leaking.

  • We just use BabyDry in her regular size (3) and have only once had a leak. Caroline sleeps on her side or back though, not her tummy.

  • With DD we used huggies overnights...never had a problem. But we did buy one size larger then the normal diaper size (the overnights seem to run slightly small).

  • I use the Pampers Baby Dry size 4 during the day and Huggies Overnights size 4 at night. So far no issues.
Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.
  • DS wears size 3 during the day and size 4 at night, that works great but my friend puts her baby in a size 3 diaper with a size 4 over it at night (ie. 2 diapers) for double leak protection.

  • Maybe it did start with the tummy sleeping, I'm not sure, but at some point, Keira started leaking every single freaking night.  The only thing that fixed it was going up a size (and then we had to switch brands too, from Pampers, to Huggies, when Pampers changed their diapers, because even the Cruisers were leaking for us).  So now she wears size 4 Huggies Supreme Little Movers during the day, and size 5 Huggies Overnight at night.
  • Sarah wears size 3 for the day (Luv's) and for the night (Huggies Overnite). Never had a leak.
