I believe I had to wait 24 hours, but I was also on mag sulfate for the 24 hours after my c-section due to pre-e (to prevent seizures), so that might have been why I had to wait longer.
my section was at 8am... I didn't have it removed until about 9pm - but my choice... they would have removed it early that afternoon - but i was feeling a little light headed and was afraid to have to get up to pee -- so i asked to wait a few more hours.
I was on my feet about 12 hours after my section- they tried to remove my foley then but I couldn't go and was uncomfortable so they waited til the next day.
I had the LOs around 6 pm on Friday and they took the catheter out/made me get up Saturday evening. I was very unsteady on my feet and weak after 14 weeks of strict bedrest so they wanted to make sure I was ready to be up.
After 20 months TTC with PCOS, we were blessed with twins!
They arrived at 36 weeks after PTL and bedrest for 14 weeks.
My section was at 7:30 pm and foley was removed the next morning really early. I was up, showered, hair and make up done by 9:00 the next morning. This was my second section and I knew I needed to get up and moving if I wanted to feel good soon. It wasn't actually a problem at all.

My c-section was at 4:30 PM and I was out of bed by around 2:00 PM the next day. It would have been sooner but the nurses got really busy so I had to wait a bit longer.
I had to wait 24 hours to get out of bed, I think they removed the foley around hour 20 and told me to let them know when I needed to go to the bathroom and then thats when I could get up. I probably would have gotten up sooner, but I was afraid of the pain.

C-section was at 0800. I was up to the chair and walked 2 laps around the L&D unit by 10 PM. Foley was removed at 0600 the next day. We could have removed the foley sooner, but I was peeing out a liter an hour (pre-eclampsia) and I didn't want to be getting up all night.
They had me out of bed that night - the section was at 9 and I had a horrible time in recovery because they thought I wasn't outputting enough urine. turns out all was ok, but I didn't get to my room till 9 pm so I wasn't up till 10 ish, but they just had me walk to the bathroom ad back. that was just a focal point because I still had the foley in lol. they took that out the next morning. then it was ball buster mom (who is a nurse) who had me out of bed a.s.a.p.
The next morning. I'm glad I had it in overnight so I could just stay in bed - I was still nauseated that night and actually didn't eat anything until the next morning.

My c-section was at 7:30am and I got out of bed around 4pm. I actually felt worse the next morning because of the gas pains, but got up and walked around anyway.
Walking is the best thing - I would walk the girls around the floor in their crib once or twice a day and ran into a woman who had a c-section the day before me and didn't walk the next day and she was in a wheelchair because she was in so much pain!
Re: How long after your C-section...
My c section was at 2am on a Tuesday and they took the cath out at 9am on Wed.
Then again, I spent 16 hours in post op recovery, most women spend about 1. So maybe you shouldn't go by me...
