We're starting our hypnobirthing prenatal course tomorrow. I was just interested if anyone here used hypnobirthing techniques during labor and can share their experience (good or bad) ...
Though I've not used it myself, I've witnessed women who have. When I was working for my MW one of her moms had decided to use hypnobirth and had the most beautiful births. She had decided to allow her body to work the baby out, rather than push through the "pushing" contractions, which took me off-guard, but she did deliver her DD with a 13.5 head without a tear, rip, or scrape. The crowning lasted 1hr 35min. The mom did a phenominal job, using several different positions, had a great support system, and just moved right along with her body, trusting in herself to do what needed to be done.
Another mom used this method, but also birthed in water. It too was a long, but very beautiful crowning process. I had tears in my eyes the whole time. Hypnobirths tend to be calmer births.
I haven't actually had the baby, so I can't comment on what it's like to labor with this technique. I will say that I loved the classes and enjoy practicing. I can definitely see how this might be an effective way of coping with labor discomfort.
I'm using Hypnobabies and the relaxation WORKS. It's amazing how quickly I can put myself under now. We'll see how it holds up when this baby wants out, but my OB had a recent patient who couldn't use an epi for medical/spinal reasons, used hynobirthing, and did WONDERFULLY. She's really excited to have me try it.
I did hypnobirthing!!! I loved it! I felt so in control of the whole process. I am a control freak so feeling like I was able to call the shots made all the difference. I cannot recommend it enough! if you ever have any questions. feel free to pm me!
Go for it!! I read the book and did some of the techniques beforehand, but I really didn't buy into it enough. I was able to fully use "hypnobirthing" for one of the contractions during transition..and O.M.G the difference it made! I was kicking myself for not studying it more. It still hurt, but I was able to lie still as if I were asleep whereas the other contractions during that time I was screaming "Why did I DO this?", lol.
