Anyone used the Orbit Baby system before? If so, do you like it? I've never even seen, but my parents want to buy it for us. I've read a TON of reviews on it and 90% of them were really good...but I'm just nervous about getting something I can't play with first (they dont sell it in any stores near me).
Re: Orbit Baby System
I've seen it in person and have to say it pushes like a dream! The infant carrier is pretty light and the 360 rotation is so easy to use. However it's not rated the best for the car seat and honestly I cannot justify paying $900 for a stroller that only goes up to 22 pounds even if someone else was buying it.
We wanted to go with it really bad. I loved the 360 rotation and the overall feel and design. The only deterrent for us was the fact that you have to buy each piece individually. Once you get to the toddler phase this was going to be a pain, in that the stroller would have to be completely disassembled before you could put it in the car (whereas with a city mini you could simply take the toddler out and lift the strap). It appeared to us that for it to be functional we would need 2 toddler seats, one that stayed in the car and the other that was on the stroller. If we didn't do that then it would be a real pain getting LO in and out of the stroller and into the car without having them be displaced while I took apart the stroller to obtain the toddler seat to put back in the car.
All of that might not make sense, but we concluded that the only way the system would work for us is if we used the infant seat and then once it was toddler time we converted to the city mini, once we crunched the numbers it seemd to be waaay too much money to waste.
Don't get me wrong, I think about that Orbit everytime I see Kourtney Kardashian pushing little Mason in it!! In fact, we received 2 Peg infant seats from our baby shower and I hesitated about taking both of them to exchange for 1 Orbit system!! It is a great idea but I just don't think it is functional enough to warrant the cost.
I think you can get a better high end stroller/travel system than the Orbit. Example: You can get a Bugaboo Frog that comes with a bassinet and toddler seat for $759, an extra $45 for the car seat adapter or a Bugaboo Cameleon that also comes with a bassinet and toddler seat for about $980, an extra $45 for the car seat adapter.
The Orbit is already nearly $1000 for just the stroller, car seat and base. You want another base for another car, that is a few hundred more. The bassinet is also another few hundred more. The toddler seat is another few hundred. Before you know it you have an $1800 travel system. I looked into it for us, for about 5 minutes once I realized all the add ons you have to buy. The 22 lb weight limit is also a turn off, some kids reach that by 6 months if you have a larger child.
I really think you should look at other options. Like I said before, if you want something high end and unique, I think there are options that will be more cost efficient. Unless money is no object, then go for the Orbit. I think the reason the seat got bad ratings has been fixed, something about the tightening of the base.
I have a Bugaboo Frog which is why I used it as an example. I also just bought a Maclaren Techno XLR which is also considered a travel system stroller, which I love almost as much as the Bugaboo.
If you can make a drive to a baby store that carries the high end strollers it might be worth your while so you can get a feel for all of them.
DH and I both loved the 360 rotation feature but not enough to fork out that much mulah for it. In the end we ended up inheriting the one DH's sister used and still kept it in a fairly well condition.
