Soy cheese tastes and smells like sweaty feet. I bought Daiya cheese/ for DS and it actually tastes really good! It's dairy and soy free. It melts and looks just like regular mozzarella.
Of all fake cheeses, Daiya is the best. It doesn't have any junk in it (it's actually soy-free!) and like pp said, melts like regular cheese, to a point. It won't melt the same in the microwave, for example. DH likes it, but I'm not a fan of any soy cheeses, so I stay away.
Are you going dairy-free?
I'm a big proponent of staying away from things that are not "whole" foods, veg version or not.
the only one i like is actually tofutti cream cheese so not really cheese in the sense you're thinking but it is better than just edible, i like it a lot on tortilla chips. as for soy cheese in general - yuck.

Now - I can't stand it!!!! I've tried a few of the "flavors" and at first liked it, but then couldn't hack it. And, I didn't have good luck getting it to melt. It turned to rubber on our pizza.

Sadly - I can't find a good vegan "cheese."
