Cutting practice for DD. I let her cut up a bunch of foam scraps and we put them into a baggie. I think we're going to make a few more of these and turn it into a mobile.
Kind of a fail. I got the idea from an MaryAnn Kohl book to dip chalk in white paint, then write on black paper. The idea is that it automatically outlines the work. Well, the chalk did not work on the black poster paper - too smooth, I think - but DD really liked the black/white effect anyway and did this for a long time. That is, until a mud dauber flew too close to her, she freaked out, and she ran inside and cried for a good long while.
On the other side of the black poster paper, she tried out these new markers. The effect is neat, but it frustrated her that it took a second for the marker to dry and for the lines to show up. Still very fun, though.
Color mixing and spreading lesson. Blue and yellow make green (TURQUOISE, DD corrected me). This is fingerpaint and she used an offset spatula (you can sort of see it on the left) to spread around the paint. She's getting better at learning how to use the spatula to move the paint around without scratching the paper.
At DD's request, we made Uno Ojo from "Skippyjon Jones Lost in Spice." I traced the character from the book and she colored it in. Cut the center out of a paper plate and painted it black. Filled in the center with a piece of foil, which was painted black (mixture of paint and glue so it'd stick to the foil). Lots of glitter for the stars. Then DD stuck a toothpick through the foil so the light would shine through.
My favorite, and DD's too. We dyed salt with food coloring and let it dry for a few hours. Then she scooped the salt into a Frappuccino bottle (Magic Eraser gets the label sticky off really well) and admired all the stripes.

I love these two beautiful children!
Just add food coloring and moosh it around. You need to leave it out for a while to dry so that it pours nicely.
DON'T use liquid watercolor. It creates a weird, icky filmy.
Good stuff!
