I'm pregnant with my second child and 40. I had my first baby at 38. Both were without any fertility treatments (I did however have two miscarriages). My husband and I are still undecided about having a third child, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to do any fertility treatments.
So my question is, if we do decide to have a third child naturally, what do you think our chances are at 41? at 42? I'd love to hear from those that got pregnant naturally or with fertility treatments after 40.
Re: Pregnant After 40?
Despite what you'll read, your lady parts do not magically shrivel up and whither away the day you turn 40.
Will your fertility drop off? Well, sure. But since you've already had two children in your late 30s, I would think the chances of a third are still fairly good for you.
But hey, I'm no doctor. And all things like this are so subjective, it's really impossible to put a number on it. If you want a third child, go for it.
And FWIW, I was 42 when I had my first. Not totally ruling out a #2.
Thanks Bride,
By the way, your little one is adorable. I guess I'm just looking for happy ending stories - I know that nobody - even my doctor will know for sure if I can conceive again naturally or otherwise.
My best friend got pregnant without medical help at 41.
Another friend got pregnant without medical help at 42.
Another good friend did IVF at 43 and just had a baby
I got pregnant with IVF twice (did IVF because of DH's low sperm/motility not my egg quality). I was 40 and 43 when I had my kids.
Good luck!
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
Just chiming in with encouragement and my happy ending in the making. I conceived my 1st naturally a few weeks shy of my 42nd birthday. I was shocked that we were successful in our first month of trying.
Now at 31 weeks, this pregnancy has been completely healthy and counting the days until I hold my little guy.
If you decide for a 3rd - go for it!!!
I am 44 years old and 11 weeks pregnant. This is my first child so I would have to say anything is possible. My husband and I have been married for 4 years and although having a baby together wasn't out of the question I just assumed it would never happen. Plus I have endometriosis so that added a whole other element to trying to get pregnant.
For the last 6 months prior to my pregnancy I would have hot flashes 5 days after my period started so I really believed I was in perimenopause and then....this happened. Crazy!!!!
Our lives are about to do a 180 degree change! He has an 11 year old son and now a new baby due in February. So......to answer your question...it can happen!
