Baby Names

Is my husband crazy?

We have one son named Jameson (not named after the Irish Whiskey but keep this in mind).  Jackson is one of my suggestions for son #2.  Husband says we cannot use Jackson bc people would automatically think of "Jack" and associate that with Jack Daniels...and think we named both of our children after alcoholic drinks.  I think this is a BIG stretch...what do you think?

Re: Is my husband crazy?

  • I wouldn't even think of the liquor connection. I'd be more baffled by the sibset of Jameson and Jackson, which are way too similar!
  • I would think of the alcohol, sorry. But it probably wouldn't keep me from using the name if I liked it. Its not a big deal, in my opinion- and so far, it looks like most people won't think of it anyway! :)

I do think Jameson and Jackson are a  bit too similar, but its not awful.

  • I think they're both good names. I didn't think of the alcohol until you said something Wink

Personally, I think Jameson and Jackson are good sibling names.

  • I'm sorry to say that I agree with your husband.

The name Jackson is likely to turn into just Jack.

And a lot of people (esp. those who drink Jack Daniels) refer to the drink as just "Jack".

If it was just Jameson, or just Jack I wouldn't think of either drink at all.

But together, I would assume Jameson and Jack are definitely the children of alcoholic parents, who thought it would be funny to name their kids after their favorite hobbies. (I would also be on the lookout for signs of child abuse)

    This.

  • I agree with your husband.
  • I'm not a big fan of Jameson and Jackson for sibling names, and Jameson and Jack would remind me of whiskey....probably because my husband is a whiskey drinker! But I love the name Jameson!

  • I think they're great sibling names & the only people that would make a connection would be big booze fans, and who cares what they think? Wink

This. Although I think enough people would make the liquor connection and I would get tired of those comments really quickly.

  • My mind went to the alcohol and I'm not a drinker. Also, they're just too matchy or my endorsement anyway.

  • I actually taught a little boy named Jackson who had a sister named Jameson.  They went by Jack and Jamie which is sweet.  When I think of the names however, I never once associated alcohol with them. I just thought their parents liked "J"s.  Kind of like the Duggers, but less creepy.
