Can you give prune juice for adults?

DS is 7 mo old and has been having problems with constipation. The pedi recommended apple/pear juice but that doesn't really help. I want to try prune juice, but can't find it for babies. Anyone know if it's ok to just dilute and give them adult prune juice? Any other natural ideas for constipation?
TIA!

Re: Can you give prune juice for adults?

  • you can give normal prune juice, just dilute it a bit

pureed peaches and prunes work just as well for constipation also, and are better for LO than juice

Thanks, we've done the purees, but they don't seem to make much difference either, so I wanted to try juice with them.  Hopefully that'll help, the other day the poor boy cried every time he tried to go, I feel so bad for him! Hopefully we can find something that works quickly.

Personally, I think it's labelling / marketing so they can jack up the price.  I don't there's any difference at all.

  • I don't dilute mine when I give it to DD. I add 1 teaspoon every other day to her first bottle of the day.  She's been having constipation issues too!
  • We usually do 1 oz prune juice (adult) and 1 oz water. It usually helps and our pedi said that it was fine to use everyday, the next best would be apple/prune juice and then apple was last on the list to help for constipation. She also told us to use oatmeal instead of rice cereal because it has fiber to keep them regular.

  • You don't have to dilute the prune juice per my pedi advice.  I put about 3 ounces in DD cereal whenever she is backed up.  Works like a charm :)
  • When I make baby food I usually just thin everything out with prune juice, that way whenever DS gets a cube of baby food he gets some. Otherwise you could just make some cereal and mix it with juice instead, I used to always forget to add it to his bottle.
  • I give my son 2oz of regular 100% prune juice with dinner every night (mixed with 1-2 oz of water). He loves it.
