Trying to Get Pregnant

Intro & Q for those who used NuvaRing

Hi Ladies,

I have been lurking on here for a few weeks now!  I often burst out into laughter (at work) reading some of your posts!  You ladies are a wealth of info and quite entertaining at that!

DH and I have been married for almost 4 yrs, just bought a home and are going to actively start TTC in January (my lil sis is getting married in Nov).  I came off NuvaRing at the end of June after six years, now at day 40...started charting on what should have been the first day of a second cycle...no AF!  Just waiting, I had a pretty wacky body beforehand, so we'll see.

My question is for those of you who used "The Ring." What symptoms did you have coming off? I have been on other forms of BC and have never experienced anything like this--monster mood swings, my left breast was completely uncomfortable for two weeks, my lower abdomen was extremely sensitive (what I thought should have been cramping for AF), and a dull headache going on for weeks.  What is your experience in getting back to a regular cycle?

Re: Intro & Q for those who used NuvaRing

  • I was on it for about a year.  Anytime I get off BC I have pretty long cycles.  I'm on CD 19 now and no signs of O anywhere near.  I think it's different for everyone though.

Have you taken a test, just to be sure?  Those sound like common symptoms of your body regulating after hormones, but they could also be pg symptoms.  Just sayin.  :)  After 60 days and no +test and no period, I would call your doc.

  • Good luck! I was not on nuvaring, but one of my friends went off of it. She is not TTC, so she hasn't been charting or anything. However, she didn't notice ANY symptoms coming off of it. I was on BCP and had a horrible time my first month off. It has gotten better though! I think it really depends on the person. Are you charting on Fertility Friend? If not, I recommend at least reading the tutorials if you don't decide to chart. You can join by clicking on my chart at the bottom of my post. It's free and I find it very helpful.

  • I just came off late last year. I had horrible cramps on it after about 4 years. Anyway, my experience coming off was painful for the first couple of months and a lot of pain in the chest. But, my cycles are still off. I started keeping track and from Jan on my cycles have been 33/41/39/34/31. HTH. The ring is a tough one to get on track with (especially if you weren't "normal" to begin with - as I wasn't). At least, that's what my doc said...

I'm charting and it will seriously be your best friend... I chart and then when I get close, I use the OPK. I was trying the OPKs and not charting until last month. It didn't work (obviously), so I suggest charting. It helps!

  • I am on FF, have been charting for about 2 weeks now or what would have been the first day of my 2nd cycle off BC.  My chart is linked in my signature, I am kind of all over the place.

I took a test on Monday...I was a secretly a little disappointed it wasn't positive!

  • I had the same symptoms you mentioned and I was only on it for about a year. Headache, mood swings, cramping, horribly tender breasts. My cycle actually was right on the first month. The 2nd month I was 9 days late.

    HTH, GL!

  • I was on the ring for several years. Coming off, I became completely greasy - hair and skin. I'd say that was the worst. It took me several months to even sort of even out.

I've been off a year and I never really got back to normal. We've moved on to an RE because I don't ovulate.

  • I was on NR for a while and got off of it in Feb. For the first couple of months I had text book cycles. Then each month my cycle got longer and longer. Now Im on CD 51 with no sign of AF in sight. I doubt its because of the BC though. It's been plenty long enough to get it out of my system  by this point. But other than progressively longer cycles (which is probably just my body), nothing out of the ordinary.
