Poll: What did you have ready?

So at lunch, I met up with a friend and her pregnant buddy. She's due in Jan and already has the following things lined up and was shocked that I don't:

1. Daycare

2. Pedi

3. Signed up for birthing classes/CPR classes at the local hosptil

4. Nursery colors picked up (they are finding out sex in 2 weeks)

5. A family member who will make them organic food for the baby

So I ask, how prepared are you/were you for the baby and what did you have completed by what timeline?

So far we are getting on waiting lists for daycares (hard to find them in our area for some reason), I'm looking into dates for baby classes from our hospital but that's it. When did having a kid become a competition?

Re: Poll: What did you have ready?

  • THAT is over the top! I found a pedi about 1 month before she was born. I had her on the daycare wait list very early but that was because daycare is in my building at work & I obviously knew I wanted to bring her there. Colors are easy- she has probably known that for awhile now. Childbirth class I never did that because everyone I knew said they were a waste of time. Someone to do organics? What- like grow garden stuff? That's strange. Don't worry- you are not at all behind in any sort of "contest". I think u r good with daycare!!!

  • By that time, we had NOTHING done. We started checking things off the list around 24 weeks. It didn't feel real enough until that point!
  • Thanks for talking me off the ledge as usual. Just wondering if I was alone here. :)
  • I had none of this done. at.all. I still dont have all of this done. My baby id 6months old. I must be a bad parent.

If it makes any consolation, she seems like the type of parent that will pack her child's clothes for the college that she has selected too.

  • Geeze that's a bit overkill.

I signed up for birthing classes, etc after the 20 week ultrasound.  Mainly wanted to make sure things looked good before I called and set stuff up.

Met with Pedi around 26 weeks and was happy with her so that was easy.

Haven't even considered solid foods.  Figure that I want to get breast feeding figured out before I even think about solid foods.  Silly me. Wink

Picked a theme for the nursery around 27 weeks.  By that point we knew we were having a boy and we starting to try and buy a few odds and ends (and do the registry) so a decision had to be made if we were doing any kind of theme for the baby's room.   Also that was right before my mom came up and did her crazy shopping spree so things needed to be set before she came into town or she would take over.  She still isn't happy with the sports theme we picked.  Oh well, that's life sometimes.
