Potty Training

Should I be potty training?

DS has been interested in sitting on the potty since he was 17months. I went out and bought a potty seat then, so he could sit on it without me having to hold him. Ever since then, he requests to "go potty"  about twice a day (even though he's only gone pee on  it once).

He's now 20 months. I feel like he may be a bit young, but he's showing interest in wanting to go. I've never pushed it- I just put him on when he says he wants to go potty. I'm pregnant- and due in January (the month after he turns two)- so if I don't do it now, it probably wouldn't happen until next spring/summer, which is fine. Should I wait? Try now? I just really have no idea! TIA!

  • I would say if he is showing interest it never hurts to try.

  • I don't think 20 months is too young.  DS was PT at 18 months and caught on very fast.  At 14 months he was telling us when he had to poop but I was pregnant at the time and was scared to PT with a baby on the way, etc.  Well when DD arrived he had no issues with her so we PT him.  It went fast and easy and we also did night time and nap training then too without problems.  I now wish we would have done it when he was 14 months.
