c-section moms

Anyone know about the cost of your c-section and hospital stay before insurance paid?  We had it all figuared out how much we owed for our stay because it was $500 per day up to 3 days.  After 3 days we had no copay.  dh just found out that our insurance is changing to we now pay 25% of the biil.  Just trying to figure a ball park of what we may be paying now.  I had Kaiser and never saw a bill for my c-section with dd.  All I saw was what my copay was.

Re: c-section moms

  • We ended up paying about $3.5K out of pocket. Our insurance covered 80% after the deductible, and we paid the deductible for both me and the baby.

Before insurance it was probably $20-25K-ish?

  • Depends on where you live. I live in a state with really high medical care costs and my c-section was almost $50K (for everything). Our insurance covered 90% and we were responsible for the remaining 10%, but our max cap was $3500.

I think the "average" cost for a c-section is around $28K, though.

  • I have amazing insurance and didn't have to pay anything.  I actually got a check back in the mail from the hospital because of overpayment.

  • Around 17K for c/s, anesthesia and hospital stay.
    DS1 age 7, DD age 5 and DS2 born 4/3/12
  • Mine were rolled into one bill for all prenatal visits/care for me, plus the hospital stay & c-section.  It was right around 30k.
  • Depends on where you live.  I saw the pre-insurance cost for mine in NJ and it was over $70K.  I went into the hospital to start an induction Wed night, she was born Thurs night, but we didn't go home until Monday because I was having blood pressure issues (induced due to pre-e).

  • Thank you im getting a ball park of $20,000-$30,000.

Dh does not have much info I guess his bosses our working on the plans right now.  So I dont even know if my copay changes for my ob or even if I can keep my ob.  Nothing yet besides its 25% of the hospital bill for delivery and it changes Sept 1st.

  • I think we paid about $3000 and our insurance covered 90%.  I even got out of the hospital about a day early so we saved a little money.

  • Thank you everyone it helps.  I guess we have to pay 25% up to $3500 (I guess we pay copays untill we hit $3500 for the year?).  I get to keep my doctor and the hospital we planned on using which is good because I really like my doctor and I dont want to switch.  And our copays are going down thats all dh knew it takes place in Sept.
  • Mine was $20,000.  I had to pay 10% .... but it's 10% of the negotiated rate (not the total cost).  So I paid about $300.00.
