NE Mpls/suburb pediatrician recommendations (and a dumb question)

Hi all.  I am expecting a daughter at the beginning of October and am (perhaps belatedly) starting the search for a pediatrician.

I live in NE Minneapolis and would like to find something in this area (perhaps St. Anthony, Roseville, Fridley, Columbia Heights, Falcon Heights, etc?).

Also, I know there is a Fairview Clinic on Silver Lake Road, which is pretty convenient, but there are no doctors listed as "pediatricians" - there are just "family" doctors.  This may be a dumb question, but is that the same thing?

TIA!

Re: NE Mpls/suburb pediatrician recommendations (and a dumb question)

  • Family doctors would work as they will see anyone in a family while a ped is specialized in the care of infants and children.

I am no help on a rec though. GL on your search. October will be here before you know it :-)

  • Family doctors aren't the same as pediatricians as they handle the entire family and not just children. My family doctor is my regular dr, handled both my pregnancies and deliveries and is now both my daughters dr too. I love going to the same person for everything as I've really gotten to know her and the clinic.

If you are interested in a good pediatric clinic in Fridley, try Fridley Children's and Teenagers' Medical Clinic. I have friends who see both Dr Sakkal and Dr Sitrin and really enjoy both.

    Good luck!

  • I'm with you. Would like to have a ped closer to home but it seems like everyone recommends peds in Edina area. I know Central peds does a monthly "get to know you" night. I will be attending those as my Edina Ped is just not convenient. Let us know if you find someone you like.
  • FWIW, DH got a recommendation from a friend who also lives in NE and brings their young daughter to the Fairview clinic on University and 25xx SE (near the new Gopher stadium, I believe) and still a pretty short drive from NE Mpls.  It is a pediatrics clinic, so I think we're going to check it out.  I suppose we can always move later if we need to, but it would be nice to find someone we like and trust and could see consistently.

  • I'm in the same area and we use Minneapolis Fairview Children's Clinic on University in Mpls.  The drive is super easy, we're at 35W and 694 and I can get there in less than 15 minutes.  We see Dr. Heggie, and she's awesome!  Everytime I have a question, they are super responsive at all times day/night.  During their non-clinic hours their nurse line rolls over to Children's Hospital.  Also, I've never had a Dr. in all of my life call to follow up on an appointment themselves.  We had our DD in for a minor bout of vomiting, and she called herself the next day to check on her.  They have all the amenities of a large clinic, but with a small clinic feel, and are in the Children's Hospital network.

  • We use Silver Lake Clinic in St. Anthony.  I love it there.  It's a North Memorial Clinic but you don't have to solely use NM hospital.  I know my doctor uses both North Memorial and Unity (in Fridley).  Let me know if you'd like my DRs name.
