Houston Babies

Childbirthing classes?

Did anyone take a childbirthing class that they loved or hated in Houston?  I plan on taking one, but there are so many options!  Some of them are so long too!  Are the ones that stretch across 5-6 weeks really worth it?

Re: Childbirthing classes?

  • I don't think it's something you could love or hate. Many on here will say they didn't think they needed to go, and didn't regret not going. I took a class at the hospital where I delivered. We did the multi week class because it fit better into our schedule and we preferred to not have to sit in one place for hours straight.

For me, it was mainly about hospital policies, which is why I took the class where I did.  Breastfeeding classes however, if you plan to BF, are great. I took the class at Women's (not where I delivered) because it was highly recommended.

  • Totally depends on what kind of delivery you're hoping for. I'd say absolutely required if you're trying drug-free. Find a real Lamaze instructor or Bradley method if you want that kind of class. Even if you're not, I'd at least recommend it- you should at least be prepared for the whole process.

Otherwise, the hospital classes are mostly their policies and procedures. We just did the hospital tour and got all that info.

Ditto that. Some doulas and CBEs in the area will do private classes and do them all in one weekend if 6 weeks are too long for you.
