Well I think I've picked the perfect middle name to go with Elle (nickname Ellie)
Soleil - (pronounced So-Lay) - it means Sun in French
I was watching tv today - 50 most famous child actors - and heard Punky Brewster's real name again - Soleil Moon Frey
Anyway - I'm looking for impressions and perceptions of that name
Because it's a middle name I'm not as concerned about it being mispronounced but still. . .
Also - any alternative spelling suggestions are welcome. . .
Re: Soleil?
Don't change the spelling. Soleil has exactly one correct spelling and, for the most part, will be pronounced correctly on sight. It's not unfamiliar to most people.
I like the name Soleil, but I can't imagine Elle Soleil.
What a pretentious wanna-be-Frenchie name that would be - Elle Soleil

No spelling changes, please.
I agree with pps that Elle Soleil sound the greatest. It isn't bad, but the L's are a wee bit much.
I guess I must have crawled out from under a rock because I'm totally unfamiliar with the name Soleil, and if you didn't put the pronounciation I would have been calling it So-Leel - - which IS too many LL's.
Elle is cute, ok, I like Ellie better, but it looks like that's what you are going to call the baby.
I rather like the way Ellie Soliel rolls off the tongue.
Honestly, after the baby announcements go out, no one is going to remember her middle name except you - probably when you're mad. If you like it - go for it, if not, keep looking for another middle name.
As a teacher, the only middle names I know are for the kids who go by both names -rare, and the ones that go by their middle names - such as a recent Elizabeth Grace who we called Gracie. I wouldn't worry about it being too "French" or pretentious unless you plan on calling her "Elle Soleil" all the time around people, 'cause then all the French people might laugh - "SHE SUN" - I say that not to be mean, but because I have a DD named Tia, and all my Spanish speaking friends think it's the funniest thing I could have named my child - "AUNT", I just tell them that her name is Greek for princess and they are welcome to call her Princessa!
Good luck on your naming process!
agreed.

As someone who was completely educated in French, it looks so odd, sorry. A Francophone would be very unlikely to use those names together or even separately "She Sun." The only French name that I can remember seeing with the word "soleil" in it was a "Marie-Soleil," which is a unique French name.
Sorry, nms at all. Good luck!
This exactly. When I hear Soleil I immediately want to tack on the Moon Frye, and think of Punky Brewster, but I'm sure that is just a generational thing. She was a hero when I was 8!
I know a little girl whose fn is Soleil. I think it's really cute. No one ever mispronounces it here, and if you're using it as a mn, you should be even less worried.
Don't change the spelling. Another name in the same vein that I like is Solange.
Wait, so the actress's name is SUN Moon Frey?
It was a much better hippie name in my mind before I understood the French translation.
Anyway I don't like the sound of Elle Soleil, especially if the translation means She Sun.
Wait, I think this could work. Since Ra is the sun god in Egyptian mythology, then She-Ra would be Elle Soleil in French. That's kind of awesome, especially since I loved that show.
