Update re: I want a natural birth...I think! (Intro)

So, convincing DH was WAY easier than I thought it would be!  We watched The Business of Being Born last night (Yay for Watch It Now on Netflix!).  DH was obviously/audibly horrified by the statistics that were presented in the movie and was fascinated/amazed by the births.  As soon as it was over, he said, "Let's check out the Birth Center!"

 

I have an appointment with my OB (who I love and have been seeing for 10+ years) on August 13.  She used to work at the Birth Center so we are going to find out if she will be supportive of our plan for natural birth.  If it will work, we will still have her deliver our baby at the hospital as originally planned.  Our hospital has bath tubs, squatting bars, birthing balls, etc. in each L & D room.  So, we?ll see what she has to say when we talk to her on the 13^th.  If she isn?t on board or if it sounds like she might pressure us against our plan, we will go elsewhere.

 

Also, I ordered the Ina May books and should receive them from Amazon tomorrow!  Woo hoo!

Woah, I think that movie is working! I watched it on Netflix Watch Instantly too and have been considering natural child birth/water birth. They just made it look like such an intimate thing and that's what I want!

This always cracks me up....the film provides statistical data and a variety of speakers...and one of the filmmakers actually ends up having a c-section in the end....how is that biased?  The people who say that are typically people who do not want to accept that yes we in this country DO medicalize birth, we do think that our way is the best way even when we have proof that it may not be, we have used interventions and drugs that had negative affects on moms and babies....

what is even more interesting....hang out in the third trimester board....and watch how many are being subjected to the use of cytotec in their births. When I was in my 3rd trimester and hung out on that board there were questions nearly daily about whether anyone knew anything about cytotec or birth stories where it had been used....WE KNOW it is being used off label for birth, and we know and have known since the early nineties the risks and side effects of it.  Unbelievable!

exactly.  this is what i have thought too.  i thought it made everything full circle and showed that yes there are medically necessary c-sections and that they weren't denying that fact or trying to cover it up.  they put it right in your face.

Why are you guys having to convince your DH's of a natural birth? It's your decision. They should support you  no matter which route you go. You are the one pushing a watermelon out of a 10 cm hole! You can do it!!
