Is anyone getting a mini crib instead of a full size crib? We live in a small apartment, and I'm thinking this makes the most sense for us. Is there any reason not to get a mini crib? The only downside I can see is that there's not much of a selection. Also, the brands I've found so far do not get good ratings on Baby Bargains. Has anyone found any cute ones? I like that they convert to twin size beds instead of full size, because there's no way LO will get a full size bed any time soon anyway.
I like the idea of a mini crib/dresser/changing table combo too, similar to this:

Who else is dealing with a small space? How are you maximizing it?
Re: Small nurseries - mini crib vs. full size
I was going to get a mini crib since our room is a bit small. We ended up finding a crib at a garage sale and I couldn't resist the savings, so we ended up with a normal sized one. I think they're perfectly fine, plenty big for a baby.
I was going to get this one (sorry it's not clicky):

I really like that one! Thanks.
Thanks
I wish I could go to a store and see it though. I don't like buying furniture online.
I think the one in the link is really cute.
My concern would be that the mini-crib would be too small by the time the baby started to hit around 1 year old... DS was in his crib until around 19 months old and I'm pretty sure that he would have stretched the entire length of the crib if he had been in a mini-crib. Just something to consider - it could get pretty cramped in there. Also, when the child is too big for a crib, but you don't want to move them into a bed yet, a lot of cribs can be used as toddler beds without taking up anymore space than it did as a crib.
One year? Dang, I was hoping it would last longer than that. How soon can you move them to a real bed?
I saw several mini cribs at BRU and they are really cute! DH doesn't want to go that route though so we got the Graco Lauren.
I am not sure how long the baby would be able to sleep in a mini crib though.
Thanks for the suggestion. I looked at the Stokke but I think it's way too expensive. I hate that you have to buy their mattresses, their sheets, their conversion kits, etc. It really adds up! Plus I think it's NMS.
We are going with an Ikea crib this time around. Not sure if you have one around you to go and look at them but they do offer them online and the price is reasonalbe. HTH
As a mother I see a big problem with that crib in the link, but not with the size. The size will probably be fine.
See the front where there are 2 vertical bars about a third of the way down? That bar would make an excellent foothold for a child who wants to climb up onto the changing table. Any kid will be out climbing out of that crib by 12-15 months old.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I was hoping to find a similar one without that stupid horizontal bar. It looks like a drop-down crib.
LOL, yup I ment horizontal. I'm hopped up on Sudafed and Robitussen.
