Interesting conversation this weekend

Say the government wanted you to post your name, birthday, interests, and pictures of your kids online. Would you do it? I wouldn't.

But we do it on Facebook and other sites with no problem. Why? It's not like the government couldn't get that info if they wanted to.

Re: Interesting conversation this weekend

  • The difference is I control the content and who sees it.  Not the government.  Big difference.  You can see my house on line and find out how much I paid for it, but you you can't see my tax return.  One is necessary for banking (mortgage loans) and taxes, the other is not.

You don't think the government could see your FB info if they wanted to?

  • Loading the player...
  • I wonder if FB were run by the government if people would still use it. I sort of think they would.
  • It's weird to me that people like my crazy aunt b1tched and whined about filling out the census, but has no problem sharing all her latest medical info on FB for her 500 friends to see.
  • Well, actually I don't put any info on facebook - I dong have an account. Dh has account but doesn't use our kids names or post bdays.
  • If it was a gov't mandate, people would definitely not do it. I am not on FB and don't have plans to be. Friends of mine seem to think that I cannot communicate with them without FB. I still can use a phone to call them or use a traditional e-mail. No FB needed.
