Reaction to MMR Shots

My pedi warned me that the boys might have fevers 1-2 weeks after their MMR shots, which they do, around 102/103 at night.

Now one of them has a light rash all over his body and has not stopped crying or whimpering for hours on end - even though his fever broke. We were up with him all night. Has anyone's baby had this rash? I thought that the fever was bothering him, but now I wonder if it is the rash.

I am not worried that the rash is dangerous, I would call the pedi if that were the case, I just want to help him be comfortable.

Thanks

Re: Reaction to MMR Shots

  • My son had the "reaction" to the MMR. They said it wasn't an allergic reaction or anything, it is just a mini version of the measles. We took him in because I didn't know what was going on. They said the upside is that he will never get the measles since his body had the immune response. I'm trying to remember what we did to help him be comfortable. I think just advil and luke warm baths. I would let the pedi know this is going on just in case.

Yep, both of my DDs had reactions to the MMR right about the 10 day mark.  One DD was super-fussy and had the rash (with no fever), the other just a fever.   I think we just gave them motrin and it passed within a couple days.
