Hey has anyone used care.com for nanny help? We are considering giving them a try but I want to see of anyone used them and what was your experience. Also, what did you pay for your nannies? Thanks!
We went through them to find a nanny when I was in college this past winter and spring. The first person quit after one day. She was upset that we hadn't potty trained Christopher. Then the next person we found was 18 but assured she could handle our 3 kids. We ended up cleaning up after her and she did nothing but sit on the couch and watch tv with the boys. We interviewed several people who wanted anywhere from 12 dollars an hour to 50 dollars an hour. I'm sure there are better people but we also have children who have special needs so we are in a different boat. Not many people want to take care of an autistic 2 year old and 4 year old twins who have speech delays.
momof4boys, did you just laugh in the face of the person asking $50/hr? oh my.
we used nannies4hire.com, which i think is a similar service. you're not paying big bucks for a placement agency, just a membership fee depending on how many months you want to have access to their info. a friend who recommended this site said she found most of the same people that were also going through an agency. the agency would cost $1500 if someone were placed. i paid $150 at nannies4hire.com. as momof4boys touched on, you have to do the leg work... screen people well. we did some phone interviews before having anyone come to meet us. GL.
I used SitterCity. I paid about 44 dollars for one month. We found a nanny, and we are paying her 60 dollars per day (7:30-4:30). She'll watch the twins who will be 4 months old when I return to work in a few weeks and my 5 year old daughter who will be in half day kindergarten. My nanny has 6 of her own kids including a set of triplets (her kids are 11-17, so none of them will be coming here with her). Good luck in your search!
Motherhood Maternity sent me a one week free trial to care.com. I found a college student who worked out awesome. I had a foster son and was not allowed to leave him with anyone who hadn't been approved. We paid for her to have her criminal background check and FBI fingerprints completed. She helped with the babies when they were born, walked our dog, did laundry and simple household chores and ran errands. She was awesome. We agreed on $8/hour but would often giver her extra b/c she did so much. We moved out of state and miss her...sigh.
I don't know if I would pay for care.com. Its a great service but I contacted several people and she was the only one who responded. We were in central PA though. Maybe in a more metropolitan area there would be more serious candidates listed.
Thanks everyone! We are so late trying to find someone and do not want to pay $1500 for a placement and then turn around and pay the nanny. We only need her for a few months until the daycare has space for them. They will be where my DS is by my job.
