Baby Names

Elisabeth - thoughts?

We've decided on Elizabeth Abigail if this baby is a girl.  Lately I've been thinking that "Elisabeth" is pretty.  I feel like I'm breaking my own rules with this because I always go for the traiditional spellings.  Elisabeth isn't uncommon though, is it?  Or weird?  I think we'll probably stick to the "z" spelling but I was wondering what the verdict on the name is when it's spelled with the "s".

Re: Elisabeth - thoughts?

  • I prefer this spelling, actually. I think it is softer.

I actually really like it, but Dh and I can't agree on a nn so it's a middle name potential for us instead.

  • I prefer the spelling "Elisabeth". I believe it's actually the original Biblical spelling of the name.

  • I like both spellings, however we went with Elizabeth because it was a family name, I think if it wasn't in the family I probably would have used Elisabeth. I say, go for it!
  • I think Elisabeth is a prettier spelling, actually, and not so uncommon that it would be an issue.

  • I like it spelled with an s, but it is my crazy sister in laws name so I have started to hate it.

  • It's my daughter's name (spelled the same way). I LOVE it and think it looks prettier than w/ a z. My name is Lisa, too, so we liked that it had my name in hers.

eta: for what it's worth, we get lots of compliments on the name and spelling.

  • I like how it is softer than Elizabeth. It is pretty.
  • Love it.  It's one of my favorite girls names.  I'm not a fan of Liz, so I like this spelling better.

  • I think it's really pretty, I like it better than the "z" spelling.
  • I prefer it over the 'z' spelling actually. A classic.

  • I have the middle name Elizabeth; after my grandmother.  I would love to honor my grandmother by passing along the name to her as well, but spelling it with the s instead of the z.  It is a new twist on a traditional name; it's not going to cause pronunciation confusion when a teacher reads it off the roll, but it is a tried and true classic.

     I think it's lovely :)

  • My middle name is Elizabeth, so I am partial to the 'z' :) But I have always loved the 's' spelling as well- its a bit softer and very very pretty!
  • I love the Elisabeth spelling, and we considered it.
