AZO pills?

I was wondering if anyone on here has ever used the AZO pills to help get rid of a UTI while pregnant.  I usually use them, but not sure if I should now.  I went for a test on Thursday due to severe back pain, but have not heard anything back, and I just can't bear the pain anymore.  Usually it relieves my pain/problems within a few hours.  I normally would wait, but knowing that it might not be until Monday afternoon that I would hear anything just makes me very crazy!

Re: AZO pills?

  • what does the package say about pregnant or breastfeeding?  usually they'll say whether you need to contact a doctor before taking...

  • I actually have a UTI and just found out I'm pregnant. I've never had one before. My doc found a little bit of blood in my urine and sent it away to see exactly what kind of bacteria is in my urine to determine the right antibiotic.

However, my doc told that in the meantime I should drink water, cranberry juice and orange juice to flush out the bacteria. I've been doing this since Thursday and I feel much better. My doc told me that if I can clear it on my own then I won't have to take an antibiotic.

Maybe you would feel comfortable just drinking the juice and water? I only had pain in my urethra so maybe your infection is more serious.

  • I'm sure the AZO cranberry pills are fine but I'm not sure about the other ones w/ the other supplements. I would ask your obgyn.

  • I was told by my OB to not take them at all while pg. They'll write a prescription for a 1 week antibiotic (I'm on it right now) for UTI. I didn't even ask about them this pg and my OB again brought up NOT taking them. So, no, I wouldn't. You need to get in and get an Rx. UTI during pregnancy can be dangerous.

  • I took the AZO Yeast and my ob said a definite "no" during pregnancy.  I'm not sure if they would have similiar ingredients that would be of concern? So sorry you're in pain! Ugh! Hope you find some relief soon!
  • Well I am waiting on the results from my doc, so they already know about the discomfort and pain.  since it was saturday at about 11 before I thought about taking them, I don't think they'd appreciate a call at that time of night....I will def get a prescription if needed, just didn't know if maybe it could alleviate some pain until monday morning.  I have no idea why it took 2 days to find anything out, something about checking my kidneys....I just hope it's not that serious.

You should be able to call whenever you have a legitimate medical concern.  If you are in that much pain, I wouldn't worry about disturbing your doctor's sleep.  That's what they're there for.
