Does it blow anyone else away at the number of views this board gets?
I haven't really thought too much about the whole "twin etc. fascination" everyone seems to have. Except I just saw my previous post had 260 some views, & what a other mom in the NICU said today. DH was taking pictures of Libby, & then went over to take a video of Lottie & she was walking over to the nurse who was tending to Lottie (to ask a question I guess). She said "Why are you taking a picture of someone else's baby?!". DH just looked at her and said "Unless my wife did more than just talk to the mailman, I'm pretty sure this is my daughter". Nosy lady laughs, looks at me & says "Ohhh. Well you guys are just soo lucky to have twins. I always wanted twins or triplets". I said "Yes. We are extremely lucky" and turned away. Of course she wasn't rude or mean like other ladies experiences...but it just hit me then that twins were "uber cool" in people's minds, & are fascinated by them.
Long post. Just felt like sharing
Re: Views
I'll confess...I'm a lurker. I have no children, let alone twins, but I do have twin fascination. There is so much that makes having twins different and unique that I have a great interest in it. FWIW, though, I've always been curious about twins...I even did a science project about the genetics between twins. I blame my mom-she has an identical twin, and they participated in several twin studies when we were younger. I think that's when I realized things could be so different when having a twin instead of just a sibling, and it piqued my curiosity.
Yeah, it's true, we do get a LOT of views on this board. Not sure if the counts are accurate. I'm a little surprised you're just now seeing the multiples fascination though; I had SO many people say to me when I was pregnant, "Oh, I always wanted twins!" so I got used to it. I just think it's funny how--as another poster mentioned recently--people's views of twins tend to be on one extreme or the other, either, "I've always wanted twins" or "It was hard enough with one baby; I have no idea how you do it."
nicu mommies are mama bears, as they should be
maybe that woman was just "recovering" from snapping at your dh.
BUT, you will hear stuff like this alot, and even more so, the dreaded, "how do you do it?" and, "it must be soooo hard.", and my favorite, "mine were really close together so i feel like i have twins too."
you missed the last 10wks of pg, so i can see how this line of comments/questions is still kind of new.
i was on bedrest from 13wks till mine were born at 33 1/2wks, and i didn't have very much social interaction to hear those kinds of comments. now, they're everywhere
hang in there, and KUP when you can.
oh, and about views, i know... it's kind of weird.
