Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

How long would you try a nap?

We just moved into our new house on Thursday, so I know its a new place for DS. But, despite the transition, he's continued to STTN and has gone down with no problems. Today is the first day he's napping at home though since he's at daycare during the week. He normally takes a nap around 11:30. He went in his crib without crying, but has been calling out (I hear him up there alternating between calling out mama/dad), but he's not crying or fussing. He's been up there for about an hour. At what point would you just go get him, knowing that it means there will be no nap today and you'll have very grumpy toddler later this afternoon? Or, since he's not crying or fussing, would you just let him call out/talk to himself until he eventually falls asleep?

Re: How long would you try a nap?

  • I would probably give DS another 15 minutes and then just give up...good luck!

  • I'd leave him until he fusses!  Downtime is always good if not a full nap, and you never know- he might fall asleep.

  • We follow HSHHC, so they stay in their cribs for an hour even if they don't fall asleep. It seems to be good "down time" for them; they rarely cry or get fussy during that time. In his case I would probably give him another 15-30 minutes since he sounds content and see if he does fall asleep.

  • I would get him out and try again in a few hours.

  • 15 minutes. If DS doesn't fall asleep w/in that time, he's not napping and I'd rather just get on with my day.
  • He called mama/dada (no crying or fussing) and talked to himself and his stuffed monkey for a little over an hour on and off before falling asleep. He had a good 2.5 hour nap. I'm glad he didn't skip his nap, because went shopping this afternoon for house stuff (just moved into a new house) and he would've been a bear if he was overly tired from no nap.
