First U/S= TWINS! couple of questions!

Hello,

We just found out we are having twins today. We are exactly 6 weeks. The doctor saw Baby A's heartbeat at 101 bpm, is this okay?? Also, he could not see the fetal pole in baby B, said that this is pretty common this early. Has anyone else had this happen?

Thank you for your help!

Re: First U/S= TWINS! couple of questions!

  • Congratulations! This didn't happen to me, but I was a little further along when I found out. (7 wks 2 days).  Maybe the little guys are still just  too small.  What did you doctor say?  If you're worried, talk to your doctor. They may send you for another u/s before your 10 week appt just to calm your nerves. Good luck!
  • I found out I was expecting twins at 5wks 3 days and they couldn't see much besides two sacs.  They had me come back 2 weeks later for a follow up and to see if both had heartbeats.  Are they having you come back for a follow up u/s?

  • Congratulations!!  So very exciting, right??  I didn't hear a hearbeat that early.. my first ultrasound was at 10 weeks, and I think their heartbeats were about 160-ish.  Maybe he couldn't see the fetal pole because its too early, or maybe you are less than 6 weeks.  Hopefully they let you come back in a week or so for a re-try!

  • Congrats. We could see both fetal poles, but I was further along than you when my twins were confirmed.

  • Thank you everyone! we are going back next thursday to check on the progress of "Baby B". We know exactly when we conceived because we had the IUI and bloodwork showing the exact day I ovulated, so we know we are at 6 weeks. The doctor said that it is quite common for one to be hiding this early, so hopefully we will get a good look at Baby B on Thursday : )
  • I had my first ultrasound at 6 weeks and the doctor only saw one sac.  She saw no heartbeat yet and did not see two.  At a follow up ultrasound (at the hospital with much better machines) at 7w2d, we saw two babies with two heartbeats.  6 weeks can be very early to see anything - especially depending on the type of ultrasound machine used.

My doctor only saw one sac at my 6w u/s. It wasn't until my 7w u/s that we knew I was pregnant with twins. It is very likely that your little "B" will make a better showing at your next u/s!

  • Congratulations!! ?Six weeks is probably really early to see both of them. ?I'm sure the next u/s will give you more information.?
