Those that are cloth diapering...

I know we have a few moms who have been cloth diapering for a little while now.  What kind are you using and how is it going for you?

Re: Those that are cloth diapering...

  • Going great here!  We just transitioned into our OS diapers (bumGenius, Fuzzibunz, and Thirsties Duo) but he still fits into the NB diapers as well (kissaluvs) so we're using all of them right now.  My favorites are the Thirsties Duos.  We use them first, then the bGs, then Fuzzibunz, and if I *still* haven't done laundry we go to the kissaluvs.  Pockets are definitely my favorites -- no messing with covers and they dry so much faster than AIOs.

I'm trying to do laundry every other day.  If I wait until the 3rd day the diaper pail starts to stink.  But I'm a procrastinator, so sometimes it's 3 days before I get around to it.  I let DH do the diaper laundry once and he used way too much detergent (on purpose? the jury is still out) so he's not allowed to touch them anymore.  No problems with staining or anything like that yet.  I don't rinse out the diapers first, just throw them in the pail (I EBF).

Overall I would say CDing has been way easier than I thought it would be.  It's nice not to have to buy diapers!  I sent DH out to buy disposables last weekend because we were going to the lake and I didn't wanna deal with CDs there and he called me from the store and said "Do you have any idea how expensive these things are?!"  That coupled with the fact that G has a poop-splosion every.single.time we put him in a disposable diaper (Seriously.  Am I doing something wrong?) has made DH love cloth, too.  Now if only I could make him find love for cloth wipes we'd be set!

  • I'm a gDiaper girl.  Love the convenience of CD at home & biodegradables on the road/go.  I try to wash every 2 days as she is a pee pee monster & I change her probably almost every hour, 2 at most (daytime).

Same as Ash mentioned.....disposables=leaky poo all over!

    We love them!!

  • We LOVE our CDs.  We used a combination of prefolds and Kissas for the newborn stage, as well as a brand called Tinkle Traps which is made locally by a SAHM.  Kellen is still pretty tiny, so he still fits in these and we use them occasionally.  We just recently switched over to the new BumGenius 4.0s and I'm in heaven.  We also have a few GroVia's and Flips.  I have a feeling we'll be sticking with the BGs though.  They fit him really well and we haven't had any issues with them at all.

I wash every other day and anticipate continuing that when I start back to work in a few weeks.  I would say CD are just a little bit more work than sposies, but TOTALLY worth it.  I used disposables when we were traveling last week and felt guilty every time I threw a diaper away.  It was awful.  And, Kellen's little tush is much cuter in cloth!

I am proud to say that one of my friends has made the switch over to cloth after seeing me use them.  She has a 1 year old and is now exclusively using BG4.0s.  She loves them and is mad that she didn't start earlier!

    AWESOME!!!

  • I use Bum Genius and Fuzzibuns mainly. I love CDing too! I really feel like my diaper laundry takes maybe 30 min of my time (if I don't start too late and have to stay up waiting on them), and it is so worth it. We will have very little to spend on diapers in the future so it is a big expense we don't have to budget for. The sitters have not minded them at all. I definitely plan to continue and I have convinced my bff to try it.
