hair highlights during first trimester

I know this has probably been asked before, but is it okay to get my hair highlighted during the first trimester?

My doctor told me to wait till 16 wks I believe...but if I remember correctly he also said nothing had been proven...but I waited because I was paranoid.  I also ended up going to an Aveda salon because their dye is supposedly more 'natural'...I don't know how true that is though.

I did, just last week. My hairdresser said it would be fine, because the dye doesn't touch your scalp and she was extra careful. She said she probably wouldn't recommend a full hair color, but that highlights were ok.

I just asked a similar question last week...  Most people seemed to think it was okay because highlights are wrapped in foil and don't sit directly on your scalp (so it's better than getting all over color done).  But many people also said that the fumes in a salon can be harmful...  The conclusion was that it is probably just fine, but it might be a good idea to wait until the 2nd trimester.  My salon had to cancel my appointment so I took that as a sign that I should wait, but I made an appointment for week 12.

Both my physician and midwife practice and my hairdresser have said it's perfectly fine. I waited until 10 weeks with my son. This time, despite their assurances, I rescheduled the appt I had for last week until week 10 this time around.

As to people concerned with fumes, I have to ask whether they are concerned that hairdressers work in those conditions every day when pregnant and presumably have very healthy babies. I think it's fine as long as you can stomach it. Now nausea induced by the smells in a hairsalon or nail salon are a totally different beast. smelly!

I'll be going in for mine around 12 weeks, but if I was due for them now I still would.

I made an appt a few weeks ago before I got my BFP, and everything I've read says highlights are safer because they don't touch the scalp.  My hairdresser is pregnant, and I know she hasn't stopped doing color.

I just had mine done two days ago.  I had mixed reviews with my currently pregnant and past pregnant friends.  Some said no no no, while others said go for it if its what you want.  Needless to say...i went for it.  I'm a little vain and dont want to be Roots McGee during vacation.
