baby in public in just a diaper?

I ran to the store after work and on the way out I saw a girl walking in with her baby (probably 6 months or so) in just a diaper.

Granted it is still pretty warm here but I feel sorry for that baby having to sit in the cart with nothing between it's body and the seat - she didn't have a diaper bag, purse, blanket - was just carrying the baby, a bottle, and her wallet. Plus then getting back into the hot carseat? ouch

Plus I'm a little ick-ed out at the thought of a nasty cart touching bare baby skin. ewww

Side note: I do figure I'll let my kid run around in just a diaper when it is hot, but at home - not the store. lol

I would probably assume that the baby had a massive blowout or something, and the mom didn't have a spare change of clothes with her but HAD to stop at the store for something on the way home. Of course that's probably not the real situation, and I would definitely judge if I knew there was no real reason for it, but I would just assume there's a good reason if I didn't know. Babies are capable of putting you in some very embarrassing and awkward situations when other people don't know the back story.

NO NO NO this is gross. I would never go anywhere with Riley in just a diaper. I wont go out with her unless she has something on her feet. Never mind no clothes on.

I won't do it. Heck, I felt bad taking Gabe into Walmart the other day with no shoes (this bugs me now that he is walking, wouldn't have before that) It also bugs me that they let Gabe walk around at daycare with just a diaper and his shirt on.

I hate to see a baby in just a diaper in public. But, maybe the kid spit up all over him/herself or had a blow out and the Mom did not have a back up outfit. Stuff happens. That being said, I have NEVER taken my kids out in a diaper.
