Babies on the Brain

is this crazy of me

My MIL seems to think so. I dont want Riley to have a doll like a baby doll that she can carry around till after I have the baby. I dont want her to think he is a doll and she can drag him on the floor or walk around with him. Not that I will let her drag him on hte floor or anything. I just think he is going to be so tiny and she really wont get it that he is not her toy right away.

  • I don't think it's crazy.

  • I don't think it's crazy. Maybe you can get her the doll though and teach her to be gentle with it and that?

I think it could be more helpful than hurtful.  You can teach her how to handle the baby, take care of it etc.

  • I was thinking this too but she is still so little. How is my little baby going to be a big sister?
  • I think it would be great for her to have her own baby to take care of while you take care of little brother.

FWIW, my niece is 16 months (yes older but still a baby) and she has a doll that she bangs around everywhere and SIL told me that when they went to visit cousin's new baby she was very gentle and sweet with her.

  • I see where you're coming from, but I also think that having a doll will be more helpful than not.  You can teach her how to be gentle with it, and also maybe it will give her something to carry around and play with INSTEAD of dragging little brother around.  I know that at about a year old was when my Riley started really playing with her dolls and hugging them and loving on them.  Plus she'll start learning things a lot faster now (or at least it's seemed that way at my house), and it will be really easy to teach her that little brother is not a toy.
