OMG, I think I finally figured it out.

My cats have a toy that looks like the leopard print one in the center here.

Every single time the maid comes she puts it on the pillow on our bed.  After months of thinking "WTF, why would you put a cat toy on our pillow?"  I have finally come to the conclusion she must think it is some sort of kinky sex thing.  Awesome.
