If you have a great pooper........

How long did it take your LO? Dd pooped the other day on the toilet for the first time and dh and I made her feel like a million bucks but last night i saw her grunting so i put her on the potty and tried the ring and she screamed bloody murder and held it in.

DS has never had a pooping issue.  He pooped on the potty day 1.  The only "hard" part was he was young so his feet didn't hit the floor on his potty but once we figured out to roll a towel and put it there for his feet or we had him press his feet on our legs it was all good.  I will say though that for months prior to PT, he always followed DH into the bathroom when he got off work and thats when he does his #2 so DS was always in the room for that.  Now, when DS poop requires the fan on in the bathroom he gets so EXCITED- the first time he shouted "I'm the Man!"  I almost peeped my pants!!

I think if your LO is nervous, just start letting her play in the bathroom when you have to go.  You may also want to up her fiber so she has softer stolls (try Ped-Lax Fiber Gummies).

  • I made Ella a treasure chest so that every time she pooped she got a toy out of the chest. I just bought some cheap 99 cent store toys and put them in a disney box. She loves it and now sometimes forgets she gets a present.

I love that idea. I'm gonna do that today. Did you explain it to her 1st and then she went? Thanks

  • Do you let her go alone?  That's what worked for DS, he gets to poop alone with the door shut.  We also started making a bigger deal out of when we pooped too.  Not a party or anything, but we'd announce when we were going and leave the door open so DS could come in.

  • DS has been a good pooper on the potty since we started 3 weeks ago. At first j started rewards (mini m&ms) for both pee/poop. He quickly got over that within 1.5 days for the pee. I increased the reward to 1 mini chocolate chip cookie for poop and that lasted about 1.5 days also. He is going now without rewards. He will scream through the house looking for me when he has to go. He also prefers to poop on the floor potty versus the big toilet with the ring. I think I just had to find the right thing to get DS to go consistently. I'm lucky that he is over the rewards too. We also did stickers and coloring.
